Budget cuts loom as Congress weighs farm and infrastructure aid
Washington budget reports indicate Senate and House committees will cut about five million dollars in a concurrent resolution. The final appropriation could be shaped by GOP plans targeting rural programs, with reductions to school lunch, soil conservation, rural electrification, farmers home, and roads. Debate centers on debt reduction versus tax relief as Knowland and Taft advocate varying uses of savings.

Governor's reform push faces slow legislative roll
As the session nears adjournment much of Gov Robert D Blue's inaugural agenda stalled though a county assessor system law passed and a strengthened board of control emerged. Key reforms including personnel director, four year terms, and various transfers were likely doomed though some momentum may return in future years. School funding shows slow progress with notable increases, while the deficit spending claim sparks GOP leadership speculation.
