Draining Through Wells in Groundwater Drainage

Draining through wells or vertical drainage digs a channel to a natural reservoir to carry surface water away. The well must be lined to keep sediment out, using rock or tile, with screens to allow water while excluding solids. Used mainly in Indiana and nearby states, its usefulness is limited by locating suitable underground reservoirs and capacity. High costs mean it is not advised unless ordinary outlets fail.
