Elizabeth Boyle born June 18 1824 in Clermont the second of four children to William Michael and Mary Ann Ryan Boyle, married Jan 28 1914 to Paul Carlton Dean of Elgin. She died April 1 in Oakland after a two and a half year illness at age 70, survived by husband Paul and numerous relatives. services held April 7 in Hayward and Elgin Cemetery burial.
Mervin Leonard Anderson born October 7 1906 in Lyon County Iowa son of Peter J and Margaret Anderson. Baptized Inwood and confirmed Clermont Lutheran. Married Lillian Wold in 1929 at Cresco. six children Merlin Elkader Burdette Atkins Elaine Hanson West Union James Sharon died in infancy. Lifelong farmer later employed by Fayette County. Lifelong Marion Lutheran Church member. Recent two and a half years of illness including brain surgery in January at University Hospitals Iowa City before transfer to Fayette County care.
Obituary notes death of a West Union resident aged 58 on April 7 with survivors including a widow and several children and relatives. Funeral services were held April 10 at Marion Lutheran Church. Also included is the Quarterly Financial Statement for Valley Community School District Fayette County detailing balances, receipts, and expenditures for the quarter ending March 31 1965 and listing warrants and payments to numerous vendors and staff.
Mrs Julia Caroline Olson Loftsgard born June 26 1881 died April 2 after brief illness at Postville hospital aged 63 She lived on a farm east of Elgin then moved to town six and a half years ago companion Josie Jenson Survived by three children Jenetta Keith Brainard Postville Orwen Elgin and Millard plus ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren Funeral at Guthrie Lutheran Church with Pastor Gross officiating Pallbearers listed Card of Thanks from Keith Brainard family and Loftsgard family
Ruth Bilden, bride elect of Jerry Trude of Postville, received a kitchen shower April 4 at Lloyd Loftsgard home. Hostesses were Mrs. Lloyd Loftsgard and others. guests included numerous locals. Prizes, gifts, and lunch followed, with several unable to attend sending gifts.
On Sunday April 11 brides Grandmother Mrs Helga Bilden and Mrs Ciara Larson hosted a grocery shower for Ruth Bilden bride elect of Jerry Trude. Miss Bilden opened gifts and lunch was served after a short program. Attending guests included Mavis Lena Kloster Earl Kloster Ames Olson Lauren Trude Lloyd Loftsgard Herbert Blockhus Shirley Angelia Melvin Peterson Bartley Guler Selma Groth and Mrs Martha Johnson great grandmother of the bride elect plus Karen Olson and David Frieden.
