The Elgin Echo weekly in Elgin Payette County Iowa is published every Wednesday by Hermen and Bartuneek. It is entered at second class mail matter Sept 1, 1891, at the Elgin post office under the Act of March 3, 1852. Dial 3711.
The Sunnydale Club met Tuesday March 27 at Kenneth Mark home with 17 ladies and five children. They opened with singing Long Long Ago, devotion led by Mrs. Alan Seabrooke, and a roll call about a budget dish. Mrs. Veryl Coffin demonstrated pillow smacking and two quilts were tied for the hostess. The April meeting will be at Bernard Hanson home with a bulb or seed exchange.
The Pleasant Valley Farm Bureau Homemakers Club plans an April 13 gathering at 1:30 P M at Mrs Dale Seitz home. Roll call will be Favorite TV program with reports on the Associated county Women of the World and Europe Common Market. Craft lesson covers smocked pillows using gingham and corduroy materials.
The Illyria Livestock 4-H club met at Illyria Church on April 2. President Randy Miles called the meeting to order. Nine members attended as Harold Boulton county extension agent showed a film on boys clothing. Hostesses were Mrs. Shaffer Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Christen.
A vintage recipe for a peach coffee cake with eggs sugar flour and milk batter topped with peaches and a cinnamon sugar mix. Substitutions include cherries apricots or apples and a warm whipped cream serving option. Submitted by Mrs Henry H Wolf.
Reva Torkelson appointed executrix of Marie Stahl deceased by Fayette County District Court. Creditors must file claims with authentication for allowance. Estey & Estey attorneys represent executrix with date in April 1962.
Notice is hereby given that on the 23nd day of April an instrument purporting to last will and testament of Laurie Osterhus deceased will come on for hearing before the District Court for admission to probate in West Union Iowa. Dated April 3 1962 Herbert D Klammer Clerk.
Goldie Everett O'Brien born April 3 1886 in LaFayette Indiana died April 4 in Higleah Hospital. She married Hubert E O'Brien April 7 1926 in Chicago Illinois. They moved to Florida and lived in La Belle then Clewiston. She is survived by her husband daughter Frances and two grandchildren. Funeral April 7 at 2:00 pm at Patison Futch funeral home with Rev L F Fagen officiating. Buried Ridgelawn Cemetery.
Marion 4-H Club Busy Bees met April 2 at the home of Helen and Genevieve Christen. Sylvia Hanson led the program with a discussion on Citizenship of the Heart and a painting talk Blue Horse. Nine members answered roll call and a workshop was planned for April 21 at the Hanson home.
The Elgin Public Library added 23 new books to its permanent collection and received four gift volumes. For children up to fourth grade the list includes Miss Esta Maude's Secret and Lions of Cats. Intermediate titles feature Heidi, The Black Stallion and Satan, and American Indians.
Extension Service calendar notes a Friday and Saturday schedule on April 13 and 14 featuring the Love Home Economics Association meeting in Ames and the Illyria Clipperettes 4-H Club event on Saturday April 14.
The Bt. Baptists MeWicaint Church hosts choir rehearsal at 7 30 p m and an official board meeting at 8 p m on Sunday April 15 Worship at 10 00 a m Sunday school at 10 00 a m Methodist Youth Fellowship at 7 30 p m Visitors Thursday afternoon included Mrs Lloyd Meyer Russell Roger Alfred and Henry Kirkeberg of Postville.
Mr and Mrs Max Hunsberger with Mr and Mrs Ernest Baumgertner Mrs Cornelia Burrow and Clara Mueklethaler traveled to Strawberry Point Sunday for a day trip and social gathering.
