Noah Metzger, six, burned his foot when his clothing caught fire after his father burned grass beside the fence. A minor accident but no permanent injury. Mrs. Falk and Mrs. DeSart visited Elkader with Wm. Miller.
Mrs Jens Halverson 61 of near Decorah died Friday at Decorah hospital from a cerebral hemorrhage after three weeks as patient. Funeral at Winneshiek funeral home and First Lutheran church with Rev R A Ofstedal. burial Lutheran cemetery. Survived by husband Jens and three sons Harry Sidney Duane, four grandsons, and siblings Selmer Harry Arthur Groth and Mrs Albert Erickson. Born March 16, 1889, near Elgin. farmed in Clayton, Fayette counties. moved to Decorah area in 1933. active member of First Lutheran Church.
Pleasant Valley Sharpshooters 4-H met March 20 at Kenneth Blockhus home. Bob Nickels demonstrated wiring a drop card and electricity themed games. Club sent $5 to camp fund. Members sang, used new song books, and played games. County club agent Mr Moulton attended.
John Ruch, who arrived from Switzerland about two years ago, recently moved to California seeking dairy work. He is employed on a dairy farm near Palm Park milking 260 cows. He works seven days a week for a daily wage of seven dollars and receives free board.
