The Oelwein Register reports a night of theft after gypsy women offered a rheumatism cure to workers John Ken and J H Englert on South Frederick Avenue. While the cure failed, about thirty dollars disappeared from Kennedy’s pocket. A gypsy car fled. Police Chief Guy Gregory was notified but the suspects were not found.
The Iowa State Highway Commission at Ames released a new 1946 Iowa highway map in folder form. One side lists federal state and county trunk roads with conditions. the reverse shows raids and interest scenes, population and location data. Free maps available to individuals or businesses, extra copies or 15 cents for others. Non profit travel bureaus may obtain free distributions. The article also notes rural fire prevention efforts by Town 4-H members and mentions Wanba, a new potato variety from Minnesota agricultural research.

At a bridge party by the Auxiliary of the Erie Hebrew Institute in Erie Pennsylvania four players reportedly dealt perfect hands. Mrs Rotman, Mrs Wexler, Mrs Stein and Mrs Baum were said to reveal hands of 15 hearts 13 diamonds 18 spades and 13 clubs respectively after the first two bids reached seven.
The Mississippi river has risen several feet in the past week to an 11 foot stage. Flood stage is 18 feet. At La Crosse the water rose early in the week causing some damage. The high water is expected to reach this area next week according to North Wisconsin Times.
