A.J. McManes, 26, son of James McManes of Jackson township, IWardin county, died while working a well five miles northeast of Ankeny. He fell back into the 82 foot shaft near the top as he was being drawn up, likely due to damp air. Funeral at Fairfax school house, Rev. J. Dolph officiating. Burial in Berlin cemetery.
