The church lists preaching at 11 A M and 1 P M on Sundays with Sunday school at 12 50. Prayer meeting Thursday evening at 7. D L Hughes is minister with pastor Clare noted.
The tenth annual Knights of Labor convention opened in Richmond with General Master Workman Powderly presiding before about 1,000 attendees including delegates of both sexes and races. Gov. Fitzhugh Lee addressed the gathering while committees were formed on finance labor issues and railway concerns, with a telegram protesting public building contracts using convict labor.
Enthusiastic meeting in New York on October 6 as Henry George accepts the nomination for mayor from city trades and labor organizations. The Cooper Union hall was filled with labor movement leaders and supporters, with cheers and a long, attentive address by Henry George and his wife Mrs. George.
In Trenton on October 6 the Republican state convention elected William Walter Phelps as permanent chairman. Leading gubernatorial candidates withdrew before voting and the field narrowed to Gr Colley Benjamin F Howly and Frederick A Potts. On the second ballot Howly was nominated almost unanimously after equal first ballot votes.
Tuesday nominations include John G. Carlisle Sixth Kentucky Democrat H M Loud Tenth Michigan Republican John E Fedewa Democrat Flint Mich by a Democratic Greenback conv en tor. Connecticut town results show Republicans 4 Democrats 48 with 27 divided. dismissing towns could swing to 3 2 with 30 divided.
In Chicago on October 5 the anti Socialist faction of the labor party presented a ticket at a north side Turner hall meeting, adding to four existing tickets in the county race. Colorado Democrats meet in Denver October 6 with Patterson as permanent chair and a resolutions committee appointed. Georgia state election in Atlanta October 1 passed quietly with no opposition to Gen Gordon for governor.
Curcaco Oct 1 The Chicago club wins the league title with three games to spare after a long uncertain race. President Spaulding telegraphs Captain Anson to congratulate the team and offer suits of clothes plus half the receipts from future games with St. Louis. Final standings show Chicago 34 wins SA? losses, Detroit 87 6d, New York 73 44, Philadelphia 71 43, Boston 46 61, St. Louis 43 19, Kansas City 29 90, Washington 27 91.
A contagious illness resembling pleuro-pneumonia has broken out among horses in the Caxton area. It follows catarrhal fever and influenza and is often fatal if not cured. Several fine horses have died, and officials warn of its contagious nature.
Austin with Tom Farrar a colored man hanged by his own lariat for the murder and outraging of Miss Lizzie Uriay and her father. Rocky Ford Thomas Israel a relured man lynched for assault on a young girl. Steffenville P Wallace, suspected Logan family killer, taken from jail and hanged despite protest of innocence.

Fielden recalled his English roots and defense of Union causes, while Parsons denounced judicial murder and a monopolist conspiracy behind the Haymarket indictments. Sentences were handed to several defendants with Neebe receiving fifteen years.
