Buttons And Bows Membership Grows To 276

The Buttons and Bows Club reports 276 members as of Monday morning. New members include Mrs. Roland Macy, Mary Ziesman, Louise Price, and many others. Dues and bow sales fund the centennial effort, with bows available at local shops and the Herald-Index office.

Two New Divorces Petitions Filed in District Court

Two new divorce petitions were filed in district court last week. Lucile V. Shelton seeks divorce from James L. Shelton, custody of their minor children, maintenance, and division of goods and Hubbard real estate, plus payment of $1250 in promissory notes. She requests a writ of attachment and an injunction. The couple married February 28, 1937, in Hubbard. Nora Jestine Hornung seeks divorce from Dean Kenneth Hornung, custody of a child and two from a prior marriage, support, Eldora residence decree to her, and household goods. She asks payment of outstanding bills, a writ of attachment, and an injunction to prevent interference.

The souvenir button carries monetary value with discounts on Eldora centennial events. A button plus 25 cents admits to the barbecue, a button and $1 per couple to the centennial dance, a button plus 50 cents to the pageant, or a button plus $1 to a reserved pageant seat. One button grants discounts on all events and serves as a memento of Eldora’s century.

Radcliffe Dental Parade draws 309 participants

The fourth annual Dental Health Parade in Radcliffe involved 226 pupils from Radcliffe Public School and 83 from eight rural schools. Led by the high school band, the parade toured the business district to the school auditorium where badges were distributed and Evelyn Lyon spoke. Ice cream treats were provided after a band concert, followed by Radcliffe’s 9 to 2 junior high win over Hubbard. Rural schools listed with teachers and numbers.

Board to Decide Tonight on S R Merger Fete Note

County board of education will vote tonight on the Steamboat Rock school consolidation after a lengthy rural hearing. Residents from Clay districts 1 2 and 5 protested the merger citing objections to the consolidation plan.

Eldora Groups Sweep Division II Honors in State Contest

Eldora concert band mixed chorus and boys glee club won Division II honors in the state contest for large music groups at Pella Saturday. They were the sole entrants from the local school, with instructors Donald Lomen Warren Fleth and Mrs Merle Froming guiding the students.

Amelia Broer laid to rest after long life of service

Mrs Amelia Broer was laid to rest Monday afternoon at Hubbard Cemetery. Born September 15 1869 in Tipton Township she was the eldest child of Chris and Helena Mehlenbine. She married Ludwig H Broer December 10 1890 and celebrated sixty second anniversaries last year. Surviving are husband three daughters five sons sixteen grandchildren eleven great grandchildren one brother and several half siblings. Her death follows a long family history with farming life and community ties in Eldora New Providence Iowa Falls and surrounding areas.
