ITS Boy Scouts Take Hike to Pine Lake
Members of Boy Scout Troop 883 Town State Training School for Boys went on a hike to Pine Lake last Saturday led by scoutmaster Richard Webb. The boys cooked stew and meat, passed camping and hiking tests, explored the island in the Yeke, and visited a city park on the return. They were highly praised for conduct and another outing is planned. A county Boy Scout Court of Honor will review advancements.

At a recent Eldora Chamber of Commerce meeting Les Flickinger of Eldora Oil was elected president for the coming year replacing retiring president Lyle Hubbard. Hubert Cleveland was named vice president and Keith Strother treasurer as the board also added directors Kenneth Reisinger Carroll Large Wesley Emmert Don Lavelle and Lyle Hubbard to holdover seats. Hospital fund drive passes ten thousand dollars mark
The hospital building fund surpassed the 10 000 mark with fifteen gifts totaling 3127 50 in the past week, raising the total to 10 792 50 toward a 15 000 goal. A 10 000 gift by Attorney E B Burling spurred plan for a five room addition with a solarium to be completed by September at an estimated 25 000 cost.

Senior and Junior Bands Plan Annual Concert Sunday
Nearly 90 high school musicians from the senior and junior bands will perform at the annual winter concert. Earl Dunn directs the program in the high school gymnasium next Sunday, March 6, at 8 30 p m with tickets sold by junior music students. The senior band of 43 members, led by president Terry Stilley, and the junior band of 45 members, led by president Shirley Follett, will both perform. The senior program includes If Thou Be Near, Folk Song Suite, Rapture of Spring, Malaguena, Funiculi Funicula, and Turkey in the Straw. The junior band will perform the Two Moods Overture.

Eldora VFW will hold semi monthly meetings beginning this month with sessions on the second Thursday and fourth Wednesday each month. At the next meeting on March 10 nominations for officers for the coming year will be made and voting will follow on March 28 for those nominees and others offered March 23. Campaign workers launched a house-to-house canvass in the 1949 Red Cross drive with a week to complete. In Eldora ward leaders, led by a Black captains group, began soliciting last Thursday in residential areas under the slogan Everybody a Member. County chair Robert R. Brown and Eldora chair John Bekemeier coordinate the effort.
Eldora Debaters Second at Waukon
Eldora high school debate team finished tied for second in the district state speech tournament at St Patrick’s high school in Waukon with four wins and two losses. Team members Dean Ruby Manly Draper Ives Allbee and Jim Tull achieved multiple wins and earned qualifications for the state finals. They will compete in Oelwein March 19 in the Iowa High School Speech Association tournament as their top rivals include Oelwein and Dubuque teams.
