General Telephone merges Eldora and Nevada business offices as of June 27 under district manager R. T. Willis. Eldora’s office at 1426-14th St will stay open for payments with hours 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 to 5 p.m. weekdays, while most records will be housed in Nevada to speed service.

Pfizer Genetics of Olivia Minnesota will set regional headquarters in Eldora moving four families. Eldora HQ will serve West Central Region covering Iowa and Missouri as Pfizer decentralizes into six regions with Iowa heading corn and soybean operations. Entries for the Eldora Master Corn and Soybean Yield Contests are due before Monday July 25. Co chairmen Beecher Crosley and Jim Johnson say entries may be made for either or both contests at Crosley Farm Store Eldora. Winners and participants are honored at a Chamber of Commerce banquet in February. In 1976 George Anderson Wellsburg won corn yield 186.01 bu per acre and B and B Southview Conrad won soybean yield 60.74 bu per acre. Further details from Johnson Crosley or the Eldora Chamber. Purpose is to promote seed quality new techniques and cultivation practices for Iowa agriculture. Farmers from Hardin and surrounding counties may enter.

Hester Elerding, Public Health Nurse of Eldora, reports a new nurse joins Hardin County Public Health Nursing. Jean Cockerham of Iowa Falls begins June 6, expanding the county staff to four full time nurses. Sharon Brown and Sally Dubberke remain part time. Cockerham trained at Mercy School of Nursing Des Moines and previously served as school nurse at Ackley Geneva for five years and worked at Ellsworth Municipal Hospital Iowa Falls.
