Edward H. Lundy 81 Eldora attorney for 59 years received the Iowa Bar Association Award of Merit at the 80th annual meeting in Sioux City. The ceremony honored his long service to the profession and the association, with 600 attendees and remarks by Defense Secretary Charles E Wilson.

Eldora Waterloo Kiwanis Inter-Club Stag Set

Kiwanis clubs of Eldora and Waterloo plan an inter club stag for Thursday evening June 11 at the State training school beginning 6 30 with president Don Wilson overseeing final details. Holy Name Society To Meet Thursday At St Marys

St Marys Holy Name Society will gather Thursday evening June 11 at the parish hall. No meetings in July or August. The next gathering is planned for September 10.

Ye Olde Folks Concert Pleases Villagers

A street crowd of about 300 enjoyed Ye Olde Folks Concert at the Congregational Church a pre centennial event sponsored by the church music committee. Dressed in period costume, participants included Happy-Go-Lucky Scott as Tithing Man and Edwin Pill Pusher Anderson handing water buckets. Preacher Ralph R ight Good Imes delivered Hawthorne’s Twice Told Tales, harpist Mary G Beckman featured, and the program echoed an older Cleveland family paper.

American Legion Auxiliary members elected new officers at the post hall. Helen Blum heads the slate as president with Raleigh W. Twelve Fined In Kangaroo Court

Manager George Martin of the Dental Iowa Telephone Company was charged with wav ing wires crossed when he appeared in Kangaroo Court Saturday night. Fines totaling 39 dollars were collected from twelve culprits including Don Brown of Cleves who pleaded guilty to sending grapenuts to old people. Other defendants faced charges such as raiding a neighbor's ice box and driving riding horses on a buggy.

Old 1853 Coin Found for Centennial Display

An 1853 American half dollar minted in New Orleans was found circa 1920 by T. Riersoma, Radcliffe, in a sugar bowl top shelf item. Co chairmen Jim Hauser and Rev Ralph Imes plan to display it at Hardin County Savings Bank during the centennial. Other coins include an 1855 silver dollar and a 1899 penny. Rierson, fair board member, also aims to bring three or four old burlies to Eldora for exhibit at the centennial.

City Recreation Committee Names Heads and Sub-committees

Edward Engstrom was named supervisor of the city recreational program to oversee activities for the coming summer. The commission includes Eldora groups, churches, schools, the city council and Chamber of Commerce. He will assist Learn-To-Swim at Pine Lake beach with Red Cross sponsorship and volunteers are being sought to staff various activities. Sub-committees were formed: Program planning John Bekemeier and Mrs Wiesner. Financial administration Harold Detthbarn and R. Brown. Iowa Falls to End Monday Night Shopping Hours

Merchants unhappy with Monday night shopping hours vote to revert to Saturday night schedules. A mass meeting last Monday showed a majority in favor of the change, setting 9 30 p m Saturday as the closing hour for stores.

Mrs Wardella Burke of Bucklin Missouri leads a two week Vacation Bible School at the Assembly of God church beginning Monday. Classes run 9:00 to 11:30 each weekday morning.

Margaret Lundy to receive BA from State University of Iowa

Miss Margaret Ann Lundy will receive her bachelor of arts degree from the State University of Iowa at the annual commencement exercises in Iowa City next Friday. Loy D. Smith will receive a bachelor of science in commerce.

Norma Jeske Heads Hardin County 4 H Girls Slate

Norma Jeske was elected president of Hardin County 4 H girls at Rally Day in Ackley attended by about 225. New officers include Elizabeth Tysdahl vice president Dorothy Thompson secretary Linda Hadley historian Jean Ryken reporter. A county newsletter was approved and date changes for Rally Day were adopted. Betty Stephenson spoke on experiences abroad. Several leaders and guests were honored for service.

Falls Airport Leveled By Wind

The Iowa Falls airport suffered severe damage in a Sunday night storm that lashed much of the state. A hangar was leveled by high winds about 9:30 p.m., with four or five private planes inside badly damaged. Manager Robi Ferguson said Town Electric Light and Power crews from Eldora were repairing damage in Alden Jewell and Blairsville.

Grass Boosters Club Tour Planned for June 11

Grass Boosters Club invites all interested to a farm tour Thursday, June 11, starting 10:00 am at Bernnard Reece farm near New Providence. The centennial souvenir edition will be printed June 16 with 5000 copies for subscribers of Herald-Tredeor and both papers. Presbyterian Vacation School Closes After Week of Lessons

Steamboat Rock reports 84 students enrolled at the Presbyterian Bible School. Director Dick Harberts led teachers including Mrs Stull, Mrs Heard, Miss Ennenga, Mrs Schotanus, and Miss Jaspers in a closing program at Pine Lake Lodge. Offertory of 363.47 to American Bible Society and John Milton Society for the Blind will fund Bibles for the needy.

Darrell Scoit of Eldora and Bernard Dale Miller of Steam been awarded Iowa State scholarships Cedar Falls. Scoit, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Scott, was valedictorian of Eldora High School’s 1952 graduating class.

1853 Bargain Days in Eldora

Tomorrow and Thursday mark 1853 price days as Eldora merchants stage a pre centennial sale of ante-bellum bargains. Highlights include root beer at 3 cents, two ladies dresses for 3.53, two bed pillows 1.53, two for 1.52, men's T shirts 49 cents, and an 18.53 discount on a new sewing machine with purchase. Shoppers are urged to come early to avoid disappointment.

New Action Seeks to Set Aside Will

A probate suit filed in district court by Robert Mott seeks to set aside a 1943 will alleged to have left all property to Ara Hein zeroth and Verl Oler. Mott claims Jennie Oler died intestate on December 1, 1952 and was not of sound mind when the will was made, which lacked proper signing and witnessing. The petition asks to probate the will’s removal and declare Mott as an heir with a court appointment of an administrator. Vera U. Williamston seeks a divorce from Sidney Williams ton and restoration to her former name Vera U. O Neill. the couple wed in 1933 in Great Falls, with the husband then serving in the U S Army in Montana.

Rural Youth Tour Planned to Historic Iowa Lands

Hardin County rural youths plan a historic bus tour on June 14 traveling to the Little Switzer lands of Iowa. Program chairman Juchem Juchems says the trip includes stops at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Rock Creek Canyon near McGregor, Backbone State Park at Dundee, and other scenic and historic sites. Bus tickets must be secured at the county extension office by June 11.

Harness track dedication features eight pony race event

Dale Williams and local officials headline the Hardin County lighted track dedication tomorrow at the county fairgrounds. An eight race program adds a pony race for riders 12 and under with $10 prize pool. Entries span Iowa Minnesota South Dakota Nebraska Missouri with multiple stables and notable owners. A dedicatory address by Rev Ralph B. Imes and special music accompany the event.

Kiwanis Horse Show to Add Afternoon Performance

The Kiwanis Horse Show on June 21 will add an afternoon showing at 2:00 p.m. aimed at youths up to eighteen with no entry fee. The 7:30 p.m. evening show features Cedar Falls drill team, Reisinger pony hitch, judge Prof James Kisor, ring master KE Reisinger, announcer Cecil Rooks, and organist David Leird George. Local and out-of-state visitors have reserved cabins for the weekend.
