Auto Business Opened In 1912 In Steamboat Rock
The first automobile business in Steamboat Rock began in 1912 as a Gellhorn and Briggs partnership with a Ford franchise. The venture evolved through multiple owners, including Edward Ruppelt, Clarence and Louie Hutzel, A. W. Ross, and H. A. Gellhorn, with Chevrolet joining via E. M. Gellhorn, culminating in Luiken Chevrolet Co. run by Harold H. Luiken. The firm witnessed early transport by dirt roads, later rail delivery, and a series of structural rebuilds and expansions through 1928.
