Three escapees from the state training school are jailed on $2,000 bond after stealing a gun from Milton Jordening’s car at his farm yard, taking a car from Glen Taylor, then abandoning it in Traer and Toledo roadblocks before capture following a warning shot.
Fred Folkers and his wife of Steamboat Rock will train in London for a year before embarking for the Cameroon mission in Africa. Announcement came at the Northwestern conference of the North American Baptists Inc. held in Steamboat Rock last week. The four day gathering drew over 225 attendees with speakers including E. D. Ganstrom of St Paul and Walter Wessel of South Dakota, Wilmer Itterman of Milwaukee, John Ziegler of Appleton, Bert Itterman of Randolph, Elton Breeker of Jeffers, and Walter Sukut, missionaries from Japan. Conference chairman Rev Kroeker was re elected. Itterman named secretary. The next sessions will be held in Pound. Rev Kurt Marquardt serves as Steamboat Rock Baptist church pastor.
Ronny DeMarce one year old son of Mr and Mrs John De Marce of Hampton was severely burned when he pulled an electric deep fryer spilling hot grease on his head. He was treated at Eldora hospital and later Hampton hospital. The accident occurred while his parents and twin brother visited Mr and Mrs Paul DeMarco here. The twins had celebrated their first birthday on May 27.
Funeral services for Albert Ross 75 will be held Tuesday at 1 30 p m in the Presbyterian church at Steamboat Rock. He died Friday morning at his home there born August 12 1882 in Grundy county, spent years as head of the mechanics shop at the training school. Survivors include his wife a daughter Mrs Oral Rash of St Paul Minn a grandchild and seven siblings. Interment in Steamboat Rock cemetery with pallbearers Ben Riekena Willy Riekena Dick Huisman Kenneth Ross Willary Ross Don Purvis. The Rev Arthur Conner and Rev Kurt Marquardt will officiate with organist Dennis Holmes and vocalists Mrs Orville Asher Mrs Herman Primus Mrs George Harms Mrs Russell Holmes Mrs James McDonald and Miss Beverly Havens. Flower ladies Mrs George Potgeter and Mrs Walter Hefflemeier. Arrangements by Andrle and Creps Funeral Home.
Raymond Duncan 21 Eldora LeRoy Harmes 18 Wellsburg Gary Palmer 18 Iowa Falls and Gary Tjarks 18 Iowa Falls were fined 100 dollars each with costs. Frank Hippen 18 Wellsburg paid 25 dollars and costs. The four admitted stealing auto parts including about 40 hubcaps and fender wane in Hardin Franklin Grundy Cerro Gordo counties over six months.
The Casual Living committee met at the Grill to plan observance of June 10 Kick-off day and Governor Herschel Loveless’s Eldora visit during the Pine Lake State Park and Iowa River recreation inspection tour. The Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway discontinued its two daily passenger trains serving Eldora and surrounding towns from Albia to Albert Lea Minnesota. The final Eldora train departed Saturday afternoon amid mixed reactions as locals noted low ridership and a $20 000 yearly loss per the Iowa Commerce Commission ruling.
Neighbors and friends gathered at the Walter Brandt farm near Hubbard to prepare ground and plant 45 acres of beans. Walter Brandt is recovering from a heart attack at Des Moines Methodist Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs Otto Kulow 73 of Hubbard will be held at Buckeye Lutheran Church at 2 p m Tuesday. She died Saturday evening.
Gordon Wickwire began last week as Fuller Brush salesman for Eldora taking over the territory of former rep Jesse Hansen. He moved into 1506 Edgington Avenue with his wife and two daughters Nancy Lee nine and Beverly Sue eleven.
Roger Cain of Eldora was elected vice-president of the northeast district of the Iowa Elks Association convention in Sioux City last week. Cain, a past exalted ruler of the Iowa Falls Elks lodge, is employed at the Star clothing store in Iowa Falls and makes his home in Eldora.

Army Pvt. James S S Bergeson of Radcliffe recently finished eight weeks of basic combat training at Fort Carson Colorado. The 21 year old is a 1954 Radcliffe High School graduate and a 1956 Waldorf College graduate.
The Honey Creek United Women's Society will meet with the New Providence United Women at 2 p.m. Thursday, instead of the earlier scheduled time.
Funeral services for Lewis Frederick Sprain 69 formerly of Eldora were held Monday afternoon at Andrle and Creps Funeral home. The Rev Preston Hinderks officiated with organist Mrs Merle Froning and vocals by Don LaVelle. Pallbearers were Dale Shafer Henry Brown Jim Kliebenstein Bert Beck Clifford Caruth and Keith Murdeck. Interment was in Eldora cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Frank Sheldon and their three children move Sunday to Mesa Arizona. Mrs Sheldon will attend summer school at Arizona State College Tempe and teach eighth grade English and history at Mesa. Mr Sheldon worked at Eldora livestock division and Mrs Sheldon taught at Steamboat Rock.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Harrington move to Sycamore Illinois after eleven years in Eldora They plan to operate a beauty shop and Kenneth is employed by the Surge company.
Boat owners are invited to contact the chamber of commerce office to participate in a boat display planned for Conusal Living Days in June V0. This community event seeks active involvement from local boat owners to showcase vessels.
Funeral services for Mrs. C. O. Hunt age 69, formerly of New Providence, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Andrick and Creps Funeral Home. She died last week at her home in Orange Park Florida, where she had lived for the past several years.

The subscription list of the Wellsburg Herald is purchased by Kenneth and Margaret Geddes owners and publishers of the Ackley World Journal They will begin publishing the Wellsburg paper on July 3 The Herald remains a local Wellsburg paper with Miss Marcella Neessen as representative The Wellsburg office will be maintained but printing will move to Ackley The Geddes have published the Ackley paper for six years.
Mr and Mrs Sam Romberg and Kathy attended commencement at Drake University Monday as Mr Romberg earned a Master of Arts degree in psychology He serves as special education director for Hardin and Franklin counties.
Barbara Claassen was named valedictorian of the Wellsburg senior class at the high school awards program on May 23. Karen Dee Mew served as senior class president and salutatorian. About 500 people attended the commencement exercises as other awards and honors were presented.
Emergency squad teams battled a disaster at Rock Creek Lake near Redlogp Sunday as high winds capsized boats. Three people were drowned. Crew members include Robert Barr Gene Setchell Don Kebhoff Clarence Patterson and deck Meshing, with Saturday participants Sat Wilhs New Providence and Dek Pettigrew joining Sunday crew.

The 49 eighth grade students at Eldora Community School received diplomas at promotion exercises on Wednesday. Scholarships went to Ann Wilson David Imes and Carolyn Morris while citizenship awards were given to Sandy Mueller and Tim Zimmermann. Recipients listed include Nanette Cobb Frances Gunderson Joe Wasey Ann Wilson and many others in a long roster.
