Dagit 1000th Birthday Party Attracts Big Jefferson Gathering
Larry Dagit celebrated his father R J Dagit’s 1000th birthday with family at home and then at the Baptist church as guests filled the house. The Dagit clan includes seven sons and one daughter, 36 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and a granddaughter Kathy Dagil in Sioux. A letter from President Eisenhower arrived, and Dagit recalls his Civil War era family history, noting his long life and many changes witnessed over a century.

A look back through local notes recalls Prof J B Talbot closing his Point Pleasant singing school and other small business moves from Tipton Grove to Eldora. Reports span 1880 to 1930, noting jail costs, marriages, a switch engine accident, operatic contests, coal discoveries, school bonuses, and church pastor changes.
Company Fire Damage Estimated at 33000
A church was damaged by fire and estimated cost stands around 33,000. Darrell T. Brown purchased an interest in Black Man’s Clothing Store. A. Sampson of Hadlelifte rented the east garage at Hubbard to open a branch. 20 years ago (1940) six Elder American Legion members attended a state conference in Des Moines. Members included Commander Orville Visors adjutant C. A. Van Pater Ed Le Hauser Owen Megan Chas. Schafer Tendrile Fouerby. Mildred Frandsen became fourth grade teacher at Eldara School replacing Elva Drinker. Jones left the Wisner firm to join a Iowa farm loan company. Robert Thompson of Wrashington to begin as Alavdin County 4-H club agent. Two years ago (1950) Carey Berrier bought White House Inn at Pine Lake Iron EB. T. Brown took possession of the White House Inn. Mrs. Clark Akers named automobile clerk in W. H. Lepley’s county treasurer office. Fine Lake Wildlife Club hosted about 80 youngsters at its juniors party. An 80-piece Iowa State Teachers College band under Myron 3. Russell will give a concert at EHS gym. Jimmy Yantis, 12, won the spelling bee at Whitten School. he and Lyle Olmssen will compete in the county contest March 18.

GOP Committee Meeting Set for Wednesday in Eldora
Hardin County Republican Central Committee members meet Thursday February 25 at 8 p m in the Eldora courthouse board room to plan presidential campaigns and county conventions. They will consider a Republican dinner this spring as the State Central Committee fixes April for County and April 22 for the State Presidential Conventions with precinct caucuses likely before March 18. Dinner guests Sunday included Mrs James Riggins and relatives Pred Lants and Connie Gaberieleon of Belmond.
