Eldora Chamber Unveils 1953 Christmas Program Schedule

The Eldora Chamber of Commerce announced a two visit Santa program, live nativity, candlelit Christmas lane, free parking, theatre parties, and over $100 in Flying Saucer Thrift Bucks. Stores set extended hours December 2 5 8 12 16 19 21 22 23 with free parking through Christmas Eve.

Final Rites Here For Eldora's Oldest Native

Eldora recalls its oldest native born citizen Dr. Frank D. Boody with funeral rites at Longenecker Funeral Home on Sunday. Born in 1865 on a farm west of Eldora, he practiced medicine 48 years in West Bend Arcadia Ellsworth and Williams before retiring to Eldora in 1938. He died Thanksgiving Day after illness and is survived by his wife Lu Ellen Richardson of Algona. Burial took place at Roughwood cemetery with Rev. Dewey Lamprecht officiating and Don La Velle providing song.

Hodgson Demonstrates DUI Films at Sheriff's Convention

Sheriff Paul Hodgson and Sheriff Harry Lucas of Taylor county will show motion pictures depicting drunken driving methods and films that aided convictions. The Iowa state Sheriff's convention opened yesterday in Des Moines at the Hotel Fort Des Moines, with Hodgson finishing a one year term as association president.

Hadley, once an Eldora resident and undertaker, leaves wife, son James of Dubuque a daughter Mrs. Jean Williams of Chicago and three sisters Mrs. Hussey Mrs. Sawin and Mrs. Floy Hall of Marshalltown.

Special Meeting For County Leaders Here

A special meeting for leaders from various groups in the country to plan discussion on International Relations will be held at the extension office Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Township Farm Bureau groups have been invited to send leaders to receive helpful information and get suggestions on guiding the discussion of the topic.

Strong Ose Hoegh Meet at County Attorneys Meeting

Iowa Attorney General Leo Hoegh and county attorney Les ter Ose discussed the Hardin county supervisor matter with no decision by press time. They were expected to meet again at the county attorneys convention in Des Moines, as Hoegh considered further action after a grand jury report urged resignations for Hills Wilson Frank Bevan and Martin Ryken over road and equipment irregularities.

Braga Injured In Four New State Cases On November Court Docket

Four new state cases and thirteen new civil fall from barn cases appear on the November district court docket presided by Judge G R Hill of Clarion. State cases include Oregon, Burma breaking and entering and OMVI charges against Anderson Madole Johnson and others. Grand jurors report today, petit jurors at 10 am, names listed. Jesse Braga, 53,Union, fractured back from a barn fall at his farm near Sledmiger Rock. he was taken to Eldora Memorial Hospital.

Truck Overturns Near Grundy Center Injuries Reported

Three escape serious injury when the pickup slid off an icy highway and overturned in a ditch west of Grundy Center at about 4 30 Saturday afternoon. Driver Merle Morelock of Eldora suffered a broken collar bone. Morelock works at Kibbit's Coal Co Waterloo. The other two occupants escaped unharmed.

McDonald Dies at Iowa Falls Schooltown Area

Donald McDonald of Iowa Falls and formerly of Eldora died Monday morning. Andrie and Creps of Eldora returned the body. Final rites were pending Monday.

Two farm sales are planned in the area with details for Hadley and Kosanke sales. The J W Hadley estate near New Providence will offer 81 cattle including 15 purebred Herefords, hogs, machinery, and opens at 11 am. Swenson in Korea With 40th Infantry

Pvt. Darold H. Swenson age 20 son of Mr and Mrs Arthur Swenson Radcliffe arrived in Korea for duty with the 40th Infantry Division. The former California National Guard unit arrived in Korea in early 1952 and is undergoing intensive post truce training. Swenson, of the division's 160th Regiment, entered the army last May and completed basic training at Fort Riley Kansas.

FB Service Co Buys Monaghen Building Here

FB Service Co purchased the Frank Monaghen building east of the Hi Way Cafe on East Edgington avenue. The 24 by 172 foot structure will be used for storage pur poses with possession given today. The depot office will remain across the track west of bulk tanks. The firm has operated here since 1930 with C. W. West as manager since 1937 and Clyde Wilson as assistant since 1935.

PMA Renamed to ASC in County Office Shakeup

The Har din county Production and Marketing Administration becomes the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation office. The county PMA committee is renamed the county ASC committee and officials shift to ASC terminology. State and federal designations also change to State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation and Committee.

A truck was stolen from the Conway garage in Hubbard Friday evening, a report to the sheriff's office said Saturday. No escapes were reported from the Training School Friday evening.

Swine Management Talks Set for Hardin County

Professors B L Quaife and Maynard Spear of Iowa State College will discuss swine management and disease control at two Hardin county meetings tomorrow. Garden City farmers are urged to attend at 1 30 p m at the town hall while Eldora area farmers may hear the speakers at 8 p m at the County Farm Bureau building. Quaife, an Animal Husbandry swine specialist, is renowned in Hardin and statewide for Master Swine Producers work. Spear also advises farmers in Iowa on swine disease control.

W H Lepley Hardin county treasurer issues instructions for auto license renewals for 1954 and sale of tags replacing full plates next year to begin today. Penalty five percent per month with minimum $1.00 attached Feb 1 1954. No new plates for autos in 1964 a year tag to attach to 1953 plates. New plates for trucks trailers and motorcycles. Automobile owners not required to purchase a title.

Hardin County Farmers Sign Up For 1954 Corn Allotments

Township meetings in Hardin county allow farmers to sign up for soil building benefits and potential 1954 corn acreage allotments. Sign up at the ASC office in Iowa Falls by December 10 if unable to attend. A farm-to-farm survey begins immediately to collect three year crop histories and 1953 usage, with decisions due by February 1, 1954.

The Pine Lake Wildlife Club will elect 1954 officers at a combined special and annual meeting tomorrow night after postponing the regular November session due to a fundraising auction. Nominations list Guy Reid as president Bob Carson as vice president C O Rubew as secretary treasurer with Fred L Miller and Dick Protherse as two year directors. The club plans two dinners this month serving about 260 at the Farmers Co-Op meeting and about 100 on December 10 for a district governor visit to the Kilwanis club.

Maltby Vehicle Found Monday At New Hampton

A Buick owned by Jim Maltby a student at the Iowa State Teachers College was stolen Sunday night from New Hampton. A Training School inmate with a long theft record escaped Sunday night and was not captured by Monday morning. Maltby's Buick was later found in New Hampton in a Buick garage and reported in good running condition. A second vehicle was also reported stolen at New Hampton.
