Plaque Will Be Dedicated During Diamond Jubilee
Union, incorporated in 1874, has had 22 mayors. Their names are inscribed on the Mayor's Memorial bronze plaque to be dedicated at the Sunday evening program of the Diamond Jubilee, listing each mayor in order from J. W. Lawrence to the current official, C. Sorensen.

History notes Union platted in 1868 by R J Davis with many early additions. Post office started 1869 with early postmasters. First businesses included John Snively general store, then Boyer and Robinson, E L Lyon banker, Barnes and grain warehouses. Union incorporated Oct 27, with first officers J W Lawrence mayor and J A Ingalls clerk. Waterworks ordinance May 1896 funded by bonded debt of 4000 dollars. wooden tank until 1908, steel tank later. A home stock electric plant started 1909 but later sold to Central States Electric Co.

Union Township First Hardin County Area Settled 1849
Union township in Hardin county notes the first settlement in 1849 by Greenberry Haggin and his family on Section 23. Subsequent settlers arrived 1850 including Dandy Robeson Smith Jr. and others. First school 1854 on Section 14. county judge Alexander Smith organized Union township in 1853. first post office 1855 at Hauser’s house, later moving to Union in 1869.

Dedication Planned for New Public Recreation Floor
O Neill, president of the Union Booster Club, wields a plow as ground is broken for a public recreation floor at Kauff ian Memorial Park. The 60 by 100 foot cement installation will host dancing and will be part of Monday’s celebration program attended by town businessmen.
