A reader reports an Iowa Falls image caption misidentifying Towa Falls as Hardin County seat in The Iowan. The Ames Daily Tribune features Pine Lake park pictures and a view of Newell family reunion, plus 1954 park attendance and funding concerns. Nearby, Ed Clary’s basement floods prompt a playful duck pond scene, while local chatter notes vacation perception and a band concert with a drum duet under director Mahaffey and Jim Shaw.
Elthon will not seek re election as lieutenant governor, leaving Hoegh to pick a northern running mate or face a northern candidate in a future ticket. Union Mr and Mrs Clinton Gibbs visited Mrs Evan Reece of New Providence on Sunday afternoon as she remained ill. Several families including Mrs Joe Norman Mrs Leland Fiscus and Mrs Arthur Reece called on Mrs Reece. Craig and Steven Eggleston shared Sunday evening supper with Mr and Mrs Charlie Eggleston. Lloyd Nissen and daughter of Marshalltown were dinner guests at his parents home, the Martins Nissen. Pete Sorensen spent Sunday with the Eggleston Benson and Dighten families. Gilbert Benson and family hosted a Friday dinner in Marshalltown with Duarte California guests Janet Patty Larry and Ronnie. Sunday the Nugents of Liscomb hosted a picnic family dinner at Ansons Park in Marshalltown for Gilbert Benson's visit. Ed Dighten and family later visited the Benson household in Marshalltown. The Bensons, former residents of Marshalltown, left for California on Wednesday.
Steamboat Rock Salvation Army Service Unit announces its annual appeal for funds for local and state welfare needs. Chairman is A. Luiken and treasurer is Raymond Karstens, with the drive set to start soon.
Local families host birthdays and visits across Steamboat Rock. Mrs Luiken entertains Lois Jean on her 8th birthday with friends. Legion Auxiliary plans officer installation August 14. Many residents visit relatives in Wellsburg, Ackley, Alden, Minneapolis, and Knoxville with travel to Aspen, Colorado and Knoxville, Tennessee for weddings and family events.
Tuesday reports show Mr and Mrs Carl Swyter Mrs Tony Luiken and Mr Harry Luiken traveling to Minneapolis for business. Laverne Bakker Au Vern Freese and Larry Meintslett head to Kanawha for a youth Bible conference Wednesday noon and return Thursday. Mr and Mrs Menno Bakker attend Mrs John Stohl funeral at Colfax Presbyterian church Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Walter Stlenfeldt and Duane of Iowa Falls visit Mrs Rena Frerichs Friday.
Mr and Mrs. Jack Comstock and Raymond of Union and Mr. and Mrs. Clem Crosser were recent dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sprain at Iowa Fella.
