Commander Werner Soballe USN will return to his alma mater to teach at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland later this month. He and his wife visited the McDonald home after arriving from San Diego. Soballe entered the academy in 1934, graduated 1938, rose to lieutenant commander March 1 1944, then commander two months later. He earned the Bronze Star in the South Pacific and the Legion of Merit for command of a destroyer against a Japanese submarine.

Hardin county firemen met at Eldora department HQ to review farm fire protection. County Attorney Barker outlined township levy options up to 1.5 mills with 60 percent vote needed, plus methods for funding equipment or contracted services. Funeral services were held Friday at St. Pauls Lutheran church for Emil Neuenfeldt 80 who died Wednesday at his farm home east of Buckeye Rev Walter Leckhand officiated and burial was in Sherman cemetery Born in Germany he came to the United States at 14 and spent most of his life farming near Buckeye Survived by wife a son Melvin on the Buckeye farm a daughter Mrs Ralph Kolling Iona Falls and a brother Gustav Neuenfeldt Allen
The Pine Lake Wildlife Club, meeting at the clubhouse Thursday evening, plans to sell 11 adult deer and 10 fawns from the city park at 40 dollars per head. The sale targets other parks, with four does and one buck kept as adequate supply. The club, with a game breeders license, will honor 44 entrants in the predator contest with prizes at an Aug 11 luncheon. Secretary Rubew reports 591 members. 82 cars registered in the contest since last meeting.
The Quality grocery here has been sold to Alva Dickenson who will take possession today. D E Watson will continue in charge of the meat department. The former owners Glen Bachman and Miss Charity Long have not announced their future plans.
A former Eldoran resident, Harry C. Murphy, 56, was named president of the Burlington railroad on Saturday, succeeding retiree Ralph Budd, 70. Born in Canton Illinois, Murphy moved to Eldora in 1898, studied engineering at Ames and Armour Institute, and rose through Burlington to head operations in 1939, now in control of a major national railroad.
Dr J F Steckler was reelected president of the Eldora Library board last week Mrs Fred Wehrman was named vice president and Mrs L L Scott secretary treasurer Miss Nancy Ney librarian reported plans for several features to increase library interest including additions to the children's corner
St Mary’s Catholic Church plans a thirteen hours devotion this Sunday with a series of prayers and uninterrupted adoration. Father L Monelatator will lead the scheduled worship ending at 4 pm, assisted by McAvoy of Hampton.
E. I. Rosenberger Hardin county extension director since July 1944 has tendered his resignation to accept a similar position in Pocahontas county on September 15. He previously served eight years in Harrison county and taught vocational agriculture two years at Ackley. He succeeded Walter B. Eyres in the Hardin Farm Bureau post.
Rosenberger long active in Hardin County soil conservation district Dairy Breeders Cooperative and Health Improvement association earned the National Association of County Agricultural Agents distinguished service award in Chicago for 10 years of leadership in agricultural extension. He and his wife active in the Methodist church Band Boosters and local groups with two children Tom and Lucille.
William Dreier Jr son of Mr and Mrs Wm H Dreier of Hubbard will join the faculty at Iowa State Teachers College Cedar Falls this fall He attended Iowa State College taught at Orange township consolidated school south of Waterloo prior to four years military service including the European theatre Since the war he has studied at the University of Minnesota majoring in rural education one of two students in a group of 27 000 in this field He will receive his doctor of philosophy degree next month His wife and two sons spent a few days with his parents while he attends reserve training at Craig Field Ala
Girls and boys in 4-H clubs have prepared a program for Eldora Farm Bureau at the community house this Tuesday evening. The group promises laughs and fun. Entertainment and refreshments will be arranged by Mr and Mrs Robert Walters Mr and Mrs Joe Beach and Mr and Mrs Dale Petty.
The first rural teachers meeting for the 1949-50 school year is scheduled in the courtroom here Friday. County Superintendent M ra announces the gathering and urges attendance by local educators.
