Drivers face increased accidents in rain as visibility and stopping distances worsen. Hydroplaning risk rises with water and oil on roads. reduce speed, leave extra following distance, and test brakes after light rain. Deep puddles can flood engines or brakes. pull over if engine sputters and dry brakes. The Iowa Department urges caution in spring driving.
Daniel Bryan Whitehead, born to Mr and Mrs Richard Whitehead in Chehalis Washington, has been a long time New Providence student. A four year basketball and two year track letter winner he also excels in mixed chorus band and FI 4. He earned state I's in vocal and baritone horn solos and a national school choral award. This year he studies economics sociology ag government English physics and outdoor music. Earlier he was accepted at Central College in Pella Iowa and won a $500 music scholarship to major in music. Linda, Deb recounts a four-girl team led by senior Julie Wood who placed fifth in softball throw last year. Joan Perry and Julie Lawler join Deb Kasischke in multiple events as they open April 12 at NESCO. Wood won the softball throw 207 ft 11 in and the group took second in the 880 medley and third in the 440 relay. They face a demanding season with only four runners.
Mr Power joins New Providence as a new teacher in agricultural education. He teaches vocational agriculture agricultural mechanics and agricultural construction and serves as FFA advisor bringing many new ideas to the organization.
A dozen boys join track with seniors Dan Whitehead and Dan Nelson and others including Steve Smitherman Gregg Smitherman Kim Wright Mark Schultz Mike Welch David Youngman Raymond Elsberry Kevin Wright Eric Ewars and John Hoeksma. At Nesco meet Nelson won Polo Vault Smitherman took 2nd in 100 yd dash and 2nd in mile, Whitehead 3rd long jump, Smitherman 4th low hurdles, 5th in 880 yd relay Elsberry Youngman Whitehead Smitherman in 880 and Youngman Schultz Ewars Smitherman in two mile relay. On April 23 1977 the junior class will host the junior senior prom in the gym with decorating starting today. The banquet begins at 7 00 p m and the dance at 9 00 p m. The band for the event is Denim and Lace.

Mrs Archie Runner hosted Sunday guests at the home of Mrs Mary Brindle and Janine. Attendees included Mr and Mrs Pete Bowen with Suzie, Brian, Jeff and Mike Harcourt. Also present were Mr and Mrs Duane Brindle with Heather and Pete Conrad. Mr and Mrs Gary Smith with Craig Rod and Richard Whitten. Charles Brindle of Cedar Falls and Burl Rowen attended.
