A Eldora G I class survey shows while acreages and inventories rose in 1959, gross and net incomes fell due to higher costs and lower livestock prices. Hog and cattle prices dropped, while farm sizes and investments grew, yet net income remained pressured.
Mrs Irma Young Paul state art week chair from Marshalltown will speak at the Hardin county convention in Hubbard at the Lutheran Church on April 8. Morning program includes club reports and remarks by Mrs J B Miller. Afternoon features outstanding Club Woman of each club and Vogue Style Show entrants. A Home Industries Exhibit will be set up for noon observation.
Eldora and nearby residents were urged to complete advance population and housing census forms this week. Enumerators plan to begin calls across the county in the coming weeks to finish data collection.
Hardin county Republicans adopted resolutions at the Eldora courthouse urging no federal role in school funding, tax cuts, and balanced budgets. They favor open farm markets with strict cross compliance, oppose new reclamation projects, and seek labor union audits and anti trust enforcement. Delegates elected for the State Presidential Convention set for April 22 in Des Moines.
Eldora Board of Education held a special meeting Friday night to hire three new staff members. Eleanor Gast from Steamboat Rock will teach sixth grade, replacing a retiring assign. Mary Prosser, former Mary Beach, becomes Eldora's first grade teacher, taking over from Nancy Swinehart. Harold Eckes will serve as school librarian and social studies instructor after graduating from Town State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, this June.

Darrell L. Scott, son of Mr and Mrs L L Scott of Eldorn, had his Con certo Grosso In three movements played by the Eastman Rochester Orchestra under Dr Howard Hanson. The performance was part of a Kilbourne Hall student works symposium at Eastman School of Music from March 21 to 24. Scott studies theory with Dr Allen J McHose and composition with Bernard Rogers. He holds a B M from Town State Teachers College and an M M from Eastman and is a Ph D candidate in theory.
Clem Marsden the Eldora high school principal was elected president of the county education council at a New Providence dinner. Other officers named include vice president Myron Anderson Hubbard Leona Froning Eldora secretary Lucille Pierson Steamboat Rock treasurer plus a list of local auto and product sponsors connected to the event.
The annual Easter coloring event sponsored by 14 Eldora merchants begins today with pages, rules on page 6, and cash prizes. Children 11 and younger may enter. prizes include $2 in three age groups and an Easter basket for best entries in each ad window. Entries due by Tuesday April 32 at the Herald-Index office. winners displayed in sponsor stores April 14 with prize baskets picked up April 16. Participating merchants include Riggert's, Leuthold's, Meader's, Eldora Bakery, Iowa Electric, Anway Florist, and others.
Dick Loverin of Eldora a Neiderhauser Airways salesman in Waterloo was bruised and cut about the face when a wild goose shattered his windshield at 4 am Saturday as he approached Waterloo airport from 700 feet. The interior filled with glass and bird remains but he landed safely.
Gerald R. Simpson of Iowa Falls faced a charge of uttering a false check at the county treasurer’s office. He was held Saturday night and furnished bond Sunday. The $804 check was written for a truck license.

Robert Lee Warren age 27 and Marjorie B Warren age 33 both of Ackley obtained marriage licenses. The records list their names and ages, confirming the impending union of the couple.
Dick Keel, 24, former Van Cleve coach and AAU standout, accepts Eldora boys basketball post for 1960-61 season. Headed two successful Van Cleve seasons with strong boys and girls records, leads Eldora with plans to teach social studies or biology.
Two hundred forty Iowa State Singers will perform Johannes Brahms German Requiem on Sunday April 10 at 8 p.m. in the state gymnasium. Soloists include Doug Pulse of Eldora and Marilyn Brunemeier of Hub bard.
Tax payments are delayed as poor road conditions due to the spring thaw hinder travel to town. County treasurer Helen E. Schumacher notes many residents called for balances then mailed checks, slowing processing and delaying totals beyond the final due date. figures expected early this week.
Dr Burke has been named committee chairman of the Eldora Easter promotion to be held Saturday April 16. Other committee members are Erv Erbes Robert Meader George Martin and S R Cleveland. The committee will meet with the Joint Chamber of Commerce board Wednesday night to make further plans.
Louis Cochran and Mrs. Louis Cochran were installed as officers at the Gloria Shrine Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem held at the Masonic Temple in Iowa Falls on Thursday evening.
New Providence captured 16 Division I and II ratings from 27 entries at a state music contest in Zearing involving instrumental and vocal small groups and solos over the weekend.
At a special Hubbard Mutual Telephone Co stockholders meeting, 184 voted for and 90 against converting to a dial system. A start date and final completion timeline were not set. Board president J W Jansson said work would begin as rapidly as possible. The meeting was called by 18 to 20 stockholders. The January annual meeting rejected the dial proposition 39 to 31, but the board was petitioned to call a second vote. Mail ballots and proxies were used, with 520 stockholders involved, 11 voting in person and 158 by proxy.
A closing out auction to settle the George C. King estate will be held at the farm two and a half miles south and one and a half miles east of Owasa on Wednesday April 6. The sale includes machinery a 1959 tractor a four row cultivator and four bottom plow 259 head of live stock and 3500 bushels of corn starting at 10 39 am with lunch served by the Owasa Ladies Aid. George King was fatally injured in a farm mishap.

The annual Steamboat class play The Atomic Blond will be staged in the school gym Friday at 7 30 p m under Mrs Lucille Pierson. The senior class production features a cast of 16 students and runs April 8.
Ted Broer of Winter Haven Florida, a former Hardin County farmer, is visiting friends and relatives in Eldora and New Providence. He is visiting his sister Mrs Wyatt Johnson in Eldora.
A banquet honoring past VFW commanders and auxiliary presidents was held at the local VFW Post. About 80 attendees joined the event, with most former leaders present except Harold Abbas and two auxiliary presidents Mrs. Robert Jackson and Mrs. Emmett Fahrnle. The front row listed include Mesdames Ruth Lamanters Irene Peares Maxine Munnsinger Ever In Struck Grace Rubee Velra Tresemer.
