Killer Ranch Shootout Ends in Cowboys’ Deaths

Special dispatch from Van Gorn Texas reports Decatur Graves a cowboy dies after a gunfight with two Mexicans at J W Marleys ranch thirty miles south of here on the Rio Grande. One Mexican is killed and another wounded in the skirmish following the theft of unbranded calves. Sam Geaslin and Cort Marley fired on the cowboys side.

Fourth of July Celebration Proposed for City Honor

Plans call for an elaborate fireworks display and military show to honor the nation’s birthday. Civil War veterans from both sides and Spanish-American War veterans would join the Border Rifles. Invitations seek Adjutant General Whiteman of New Mexico, Las Cruces Mesilla and Alamogordo units, Gov. Ahumada of Chihuahua, and Mayor Onate of Juarez to participate. Group of Chinamen Arrive in El Paso Under Quarantine

Two carloads arrived in El Paso last night over the S P. They are direct from China and were quarantined on the Pacific coast before being moved to Oakland then shipped east. One carload of 53 went to New Orleans then Cuba while another load of 19 was taken to Juarez by the Santa PF. All were in bond and will be spread through Mexico.
