Chinese forces press Pekin as legations endure siege

An Aug 14 dispatch from Chee Foo via Consul Ragsdale says the Chinese government, pressed by advancing troops, seeks to force the legations to leave Pekin. Death of William Roussin in El Paso

William Roussin died this morning at his home on 700 North Stanton street. He leaves a wife and two young children after a three year El Paso residence. The funeral is at 9 tomorrow from the Catholic church with interment in Evergreen cemetery. The infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Willis Ullman died yesterday of spinal meningitis. the funeral was held at 2 30 this afternoon.

Diamond stolen from Fort Worth cattleman recovered in Carlsbad

A rich cattleman named F C Vaden reported a diamond stud valued at 550 carats five and a half weighed at the Fort Worth cattlemen's convention. Capt William M Kaa led the case with detective Rea tracking down Schoonover who was held on 1000 bond in Carlsbad awaiting extradition papers from Governor Otero for transfer to Fort Worth courts.

Trains Meet in Fog Near Pierson. Fatal Crash

In a dense fog near Pierson Michigan at 5 am the Northland express and Grand Rapids and Indiana No 2 collided. Nine people died and many were injured. Engineers and firemen of both trains perished. The Northland express carried many Pullman cars from Cincinnati and the south.
