Hatchery becomes outdoor classroom for Quest Northwest program
Deer Creek Hatchery partners with Quest Northwest to train youth in salmon enhancement while expanding its operations. Volunteers and students relined a damaged pond liner as they help construct and plan for releasing over one million king chinook salmon fry. Members of the Laebugten Salmon Chapter fund the project, not tax dollars, and see long term benefits for fishing and local science education.

New Edmonds Budget Holds Line on Increases
Edmonds plans a 2.4 percent budget rise to 25.7 million with an operating figure of 8.79 million. Mayor Larry Naughton cites labor contracts and intergovernmental fee increases as reasons for any uptick, while administrative services cut to 3.52 million. The plan funds street maintenance, stormwater management, and a water plan, with several large projects and bond considerations noted. The council will hold hearings over the next six weeks to refine the budget.
