Edmonds Police Department offers safety guidance for trick or treating. Go with friends and stay in neighborhoods, avoid entering strangers homes or cars, inspect unwrapped candy, wear light colored clothing, carry a flashlight, walk on sidewalks, and supervise younger siblings while crossing at corners.
Edmonds Main Streets Project hosts a Halloween event for children ages 2 to 12. The party begins Friday at 5:45 p.m. at Harbor Square Mall with a free fun pass for pizza and balloons, later moving downtown at 7 p.m. A magic show, costume parade, prize drawing, and a free film at Edmonds Theatre close the evening, with a trolley shuttle and treasure map for trick-or-treat candy stops.
Edmonds Community College President Tom Nielsen condemns an 8.58 percent tuition increase approved by the state Higher Education Coordinating Board. He warns the rise will price low income students out of a future as state funding cuts shrink access. ECC enrollment has fallen from 3,300 in 1980 to 2,995 today.
ECC faces cuts and tuition increases that push financially strained students away. Staff push scholarships, grants, loans, and work programs while a December drive targets 50,000 dollars for aid. Officials warn the higher cost may price many out of higher education despite efforts to assist.
Edmonds School District votes to sell the Education Service Center property in Lynnwood at 1,985,000 dollars. The board plans a new 63,000 square foot administrative complex on 208th Street funded by sale proceeds and other district properties, with design and construction timelines spanning up to two years.
Lynnwood Savings and Loan Association shows signs of stabilization after a prior year of negative net worth and a Federal Home Loan Bank push to merge or sell. President Don Pate notes rising deposits and a maintained account base, with profits since August and a shift away from commercial lending toward secured local loans and additional fee income.
