Jim O'Connor honored for community service
Jim O'Connor a businessman, runner and licensed pilot, received the 1983 Community Service Award from South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce. He chairs the Snohomish County Planning Commission and owns Highlands Building Maintenance. His Rotary Club work includes the Lynnwood Air Fair. A roast followed the award, with local officials attending.

Former Mayo Clinic physician Wayne McFarland leads a five day plan to help smokers quit. The program runs Nov 13 to 19 at Edmonds Seventh-day Adventist Church with daily 7 p.m. sessions and no admission. Retired Seattle Health Services director Jack Hubbs will be honored for hosting 250 plans. Mayors of Edmonds Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace proclaim Nov 13 19 as You Can Quit Smoking week to encourage attendance.
