Edmonds arms police contract ends long wage talks

Edmonds voters approved the city mayor signing a police union contract after two years of negotiations. The agreement raises wages by 6 percent and equalizes insurance, shortens the top salary step from 66 to 54 months, and covers health welfare leave and uniform allowance. Choppers in extra training at Paine Field

Paine Field sees more Chinook and Huey flights as 124th Army Reserve Command pilots log extra hours to regain flying time after last fall’s grounding. A Mannheim Germany Chinook crash caused the grounding due to oil flow and overheating. Sign code deadline nears for noncompliant Edmonds signs

Edmonds property owners with noncompliant signs face a tightening deadline as the five year grace period ends this month. Assistant planning director Duane Bowman says letters will go to offenders in Westgate, near 76th Street Southwest and 212th Street Southwest, and Five Corners. He notes the code largely succeeds as a city tool.

Pilot crashes plane into Sound near Edmonds marina

After a five hour Friday night search and a dawn Saturday effort Snohomish County divers recovered the pilot Gerald Helm 30 of Mukilteo from his single engine plane found in about 20 feet of water 150 yards off Meadowdale Marina The crash occurred near Harvey Field and witnesses say the aircraft buzzed bonfires before banking right into the water police initially suspected a second occupant and the fiancee’s fate remained unknown until later authorities described Helm as an experienced pilot and the wreckage was scattered like shrapnel with gear and painted debris recovered from the shore
