Edmonds council closes old business on rent, parking, and president

Edmonds is advancing plans on a six month reprieve for Hutt Park resident Jim Hennessey while the planning board finalizes park and housing steps. Ocean Avenue parking changes hinge on Burlington Northern cooperation after a temporary ban and a stalled private beach issue. Laura Hall was unanimously elected council president for 1986, with Mayor Naughten praising upcoming cooperation.

Powers resigns from Brier City Council

Marcia Powers, elected to Position 2 last November, submitted her resignation to the Brier City Council. The 37 year old cited personal reasons and has moved out of the area. applications for the open seat are due January 21, with residency in Brier for the last year required.

Sisters protest for MIAs in Vietnam in Lynnwood yard

Two sisters Kathleen Landry and Janice Erickson began a hunger protest January 7 to press President Reagan to meet with ex Marine Gino Casanova about soldiers they say remain missing in action in Southeast Asia. Casanova, who fasted 51 days, arrived to support them. He has faced legal trouble and the White House and Secret Service caution a meeting may not occur. The women, living in a tent with limited facilities, say they will stay until the meeting occurs, aided by family, neighbors, and a growing show of public support including yellow ribbons.
