Oakley 125th anniversary parade and antique display

The Oakley Chamber of Commerce sponsors two days of festivities for Oakley’s 125th anniversary. An antique display and sale titled Older than Oakley will follow the parade at 11 a.m. Saturday September 24. Oakley Celebrates 125th Anniversary Weekend

Oakley marks its 125th anniversary with a full schedule on the square. A parade led by Cincinnati Mayor James Luken, antique furniture displays, hourly entertainments, and music by bluegrass and jazz acts accompany rides and beer offerings. A 1952 centennial photo recalls Oakley’s past with jeweler Dave Sharp in costume.

Enrollment declines hit Cincinnati area schools prompting mergers

Enrollment in Cincinnati public and area schools falls 215 in the eastern area from last spring, down 1199 since 1973 74 a five year drop. Parochial schools report a 95 student rise, Marian High gains 112 as nearby mergers affect totals. St Margaret of Cortona and St John Vianney merged, Pacelli started late through August.

First woman to lead Salvation Army male center

Oakley resident Mrs. Captain Anne Kirby becomes the first woman officer appointed director of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center in Norwood Ohio. Widow of the late Captain Kenneth L. Kirby who previously headed the center, she now leads the facility once known as The Salvation Army Men s Social Service Center at 4137 Sherey Lane. The article notes her Canadian birth and meeting her husband before his death June 9.

Norwood facility expands rehab program and activities
