Independence Eve Fireworks at Ault Park July 3 Concert

Community groups sponsor a free Independence Eve concert at Ault Park starting 7 30 p m Sunday July 3 with Nora May Nolan as chair. Smitties 50 piece band performs a full program followed by a fireworks display. Bring chairs and enjoy a citywide celebration hosted by Hyde Park organizations and the Cincinnati Park Board.

New HPRA elects officers at June board meeting

Carl Uebelacker will continue as HPRA president and Joe Hunter becomes vice president. Regina Nance is secretary with Morden Grant as treasurer. The board includes Marilyn Smith public relations Leslie Cannon newsletter Janet Buening education Adele Keller membership Andy Webster environment arks and Margaret Winters eastern sector. HPRA aims to preserve Hyde Park as an in town suburb with over 800 members and to monitor zoning changes and potential problems affecting living quality.

St Marys Faces Possible Loss of State Aid Over Funding Case

Aylward, of St Mary's, warns that if state funds are not restored, the district or state could decide where the school's students must attend. The issue stems from Cincinnati Board of Education withholding funds over a segregatory act tied to Holy Cross students transferring to St Mary's. Judge Hogan must rule by tomorrow on whether to stay the state board order, while the case risks limiting aid for 52 Holy Cross pupils and affecting transportation and services.

Fairfax School Grounds To Close After 10 PM

Fairfax council approved posting no trespass signs at Fairfax School to close the grounds to the public from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m with Mariemont officials' permission and police enforcement. The action follows recent vandalism and a June 22 council meeting discussion.

Oakley Pool to Open Five Days a Week

Public hearing on zoning change at Drakewood Dr site

The Urban Development Planning Zoning and Housing Committee of City Council will hold a July 6 public hearing at 7 30 p m in the Hyde Park Bethlehem United Methodist Church at Madison Rd and Hyde Park Ave to discuss a proposed zoning change at 3710 Drakewood Dr. A Traffic Engineering report on flow and safety will be presented. Committee members Cissell Mann Brush Guckenberger and Hinckley will hear residents concerns and contact Adele Beiting or Ed Tracy for details.

Friend of the Parks Honored in Cincinnati

Mrs. Robert Kranz of Mt. Lookout was named 1977 Friend of the Park by Friends of Cincinnati Parks Inc. at the group’s second annual meeting on June 21. A former Federated Garden Clubs leader, she helped found the 800-member organization and chaired fund raising for a Living Christmas Tree Forest on Fountain Square in 1976. Russell C. Myers of Glaser and Myers and Associates presented future plans for the Cincinnati Zoo at the meeting.

Rained Out Fairfax Sports Day Rescheduled

The Fairfax Sports Day originally set for June 25 was rained out and moved to Saturday July 2 from 9 a.m. till dark at Fairfax School. The event will be held on the ball diamond by the swimming pool.
