A Kroger representative said talks continue on a possible grocery tenant for the vacant store on Park Square. The Hyde Park groups met February 14 to discuss bids with several interested bidders, including one actively pursuing the site. Councilman Tom Brush attended the meeting.
The village discusses buying the Wittmeyer property of about 80 acres with matching funds from state and federal programs for open space. Council weighs costs and feasibility, with some members opposing the $15-20,000 price and urging a ballot decision while others push for study of benefits and possible agreement with owners.
Fairfax Village Council swore in Dennis Murphy and James Kman as patrolmen at the February 13 session. One will serve as violations clerk five days weekly, replacing a resigning officer. In cooperation with the board of health the Mariemont School District will supervise hepatitis immunization shots in its schools this week. Sixteen hundred students plus adult staff will be involved. shots are free but donations accepted to offset costs. Three hepatitis cases were reported in the district last week involving a single family with children in the high school middle school and Terrace Park Elementary.
John P. Hehman of 3556 Mooney Ave has been appointed clerk of the U S Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit based in Cincinnati. At 30 he is the youngest of eleven federal appellate court clerks nationwide and will head 18 staff, including four staff attorneys. Hehman is a St. Xavier High School graduate and attended the United States Air Force Academy and Salmon P. Chase College of Law after five years in the Air Force. He served in Vietnam as part of a small unit involved in training personnel from several foreign nations.
