League for Animal Welfare will run the Hyde Parkeling Center on Saturday December 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They accept newspaper aluminum tin and glass. Please bundle papers and crush metal.
More than 145 Oakley merchants and residents donated to the Oakley Senior Citizens Center at 3219 Madison to support 1978 improvements and fund a new kiln. The center awarded ten prizes to donors and honored winners S. Dyer Don Fay Annete Kaucher Anna Willburn Eugene Friedrich Jiffin Betty Chainley Elsie Weyand. Spearheading the effort were Gertrude Gibson Emma Federle Mary Leussing Mary Knowles Regina Luxie Kaucher Martha Bauman and others.
A special program for children aged 6 to 21 at Swood Elementary School Annex 5030 Duck Creek Rd seeks volunteers to assist a teacher and two aides. Three volunteers are needed daily from 9 30 a m to 1 p m to help with feeding dressing exercising and walking. Interested individuals should call the Volunteer Office of the Hamilton County Board of Mental Retardation at 742 1500 ext 40.
Terrace Park council pursued a $3000 budget increase to cover legal expenses amid a suit with investment group led by Jack Brendamour over a condo project. CDAC proposed applying for Hamilton County funds to develop river corridor recreation land and bike trails, while a non profit would manage land gifts for a greenbelt.
Mariemont School District teachers secure a 6.1 percent raise in 1978 and 4.88 percent in 1979, totaling 11.88 percent. The board approved the contract December 20 in a package totaling about 175000 dollars, with benefits and education costs included.
Oakley Chamber of Commerce elected Hal Osler president and Dewayne Stewart vice president. Naomi Frye was re elected secretary and Lucille Cooper treasurer. Ron Jackson continues as chair with a large board of directors from local businesses and organizations.
Makstaller advertising agency seeks to buy and remodel the Christian Alliance Church at 2800 Erie Shaw for offices and a photo studio. The plan calls for rezoning from R-5 to O-1, with Hyde Park Community Council backing and HPRA concerns about commercial encroachment into residential areas.
The January 2 deadline marks a holiday close for all offices and retail outlets. The January 4 Eastern Hit Journal reports delivery by Thursday with a 3 p.m. close for Pride event setup on December 30.
