Jackie Litzinger calls for coordinated planning efforts in Hyde Park. In the coming months residents and officials will discuss development, zoning and community input to shape a shared vision for the neighborhood.
UC anthropology volunteers and students work at a 5000 year old Indian settlement near Cleves on CG&E land. The site opened to visitors 10 am to 4 pm daily. Kent Vickery calls the site major and a large turnout supports ongoing digs with tours and artifact displays.
Paul Sittenfeld and Romola Castlebe were named chairmen of a Hyde Park fountain restoration drive announced to the Greater Hyde Park Community Council on December 3. Mark Hershede serves as honorary chairman. The Kilgour Fountain on Hyde Park Square faces a $5000 budget with park board approved plans. The project links to the city bicentennial celebration and invites broad community participation.
Mrs. Frances Carpenter of East Hyde Park donated 32 acres in Darke County Ohio to the Nature Conservancy in memory of her grandfather Adam Stevenson Coppess. A plaque ceremony November 23 at the Coppess Nature Land north of Greenville highlighted efforts to preserve native trees and provide a county wide nature study area.

Retired Mariemont Fire Chief George Rabe was feted December 7 as one of four retired chiefs honored at the Eastern District Fire Protection Association Christmas meeting. He received a framed award and honorary lifetime membership, after 25 years with Mariemont and 23 years as chief.
Cincinnati Council member Bobbie Sterne proposed the clerk request Mt Lookout and Mt Airy Civic Clubs to show cause why they should not be removed from neighborhood group lists. Penelope A. Smith of NOW says the clubs exclude women. The Mt Lookout Club, a traditional men’s group, meets monthly and hosts open forums. Hyde Park council welcomes both genders.
