Mariemont Names Jess Applegate Fire Chief After Rabe Retirement

At the April 8 village council meeting Mayor Charles Straley announced the appointment of Jess Applegate as fire chief, succeeding the retiring Chief Rabe who welcomed the move. The council approved the appointment 5 to 1 with Councilman Davies dissenting citing process concerns. A good citizenship award went to Neil Ritze for meritorious service assisting police in a fraud probe involving a deaf mute suspect. The meeting also approved a Seagrave pumper bid of 54,269 for the department, and discussed safety and public works matters including street repairs and park lighting requests. The council noted bids for a maintenance truck and welcomed new pool manager Louis Flores Jr. and a new volunteer firefighter, Thomas Driggers.

Queen City Metro expands routes to extend weekday service

Queen City Metro announces increased service on 21 routes effective April 14 in the Eastern city sector. Additional weekday trips on rus hours and daytime runs on routes 69 Madisonville and 71 Cumminsville Oakley will improve access to Shillito's Distribution Center and nearby facilities. New timetables and hand schedules will be posted, with customer service reachable at 621 4455. Dick Hulswitz, Kroger real estate manager, says a lease for another operator at Hyde Park Square may be signed next week replacing the vacant Kroger store since January.

Hearing on Grandin Rd Viaduct repairs at City Hall

Cincinnati Council Public Works and Traffic Safety Safety Committee will meet at 1 p.m. Monday April 29 in council chambers City Hall to consider City Manager E Robert Turner recommendation to repair replace or demolish the Grandin Rd Viaduct. The meeting is chaired by Councilwoman Helen Hinckley and open to the public.

Clyde Park Resident Appointed to Woodmar Farm Board

John Seherm of Clyde Park joins the Woodmar Farm board of directors. Scherm is director of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court and the Bob Hope House, with a psychology degree from Xavier University and a masters in social work from Ohio State University. He has 16 years on juvenile court staff and has driven federal support for youth programs at Glenview and Hillcrest Schools, aiming to secure funds for similar programs at Woodmar Farm.

Residents Seek to Halt Gap Erie Marburg Zoning Change

East Hyde Park residents circulate more than 30 petitions opposing a plan to rezone the vacant Erie and Marburg lot from business to residential. Hyde Park drives aid for tornado victims to Salvation Army

HPRA held a two day collection at Hyde Park Square, loading eight army trucks with clothing and goods for tornado victims. Donations totaled $527.38 for the Salvation Army and Red Cross, with volunteers from Hyde Park and nearby communities contributing.

East Hills Loop ridership grows with Hyde Park Plaza service

The East Hills Loop bus line reports 350 riders in the first five days and 334 in the second week. Tony Palazzolo of Hyde Park Plaza notes satisfaction despite bad weather and hopes 600 to 700 riders weekly when conditions improve. Service runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from the Plaza through Oakley to East Hyde Park and back.

Free Nature Hike at Ault Park by Cincinnati Park Board

Cincinnati Park Board naturalists lead a free nature hike at Ault Park on Sunday April 21 at 2 p.m. starting at the main pavilion staircase.
