C E S Officers Installed Here Thursday June 3

Officers of Eagle Lake Chapter No 483 Order of the Eastern Star were installed at a stand meeting June 3 at the Masonic Hall with Mrs Ruby Ahlers as installing officer. New and appointed officers were named, including Worthy Matron Lulu Spalinger and Worthy Patron Lloyd Spalinger, with several guests welcomed.

Scouts Drive to Buy Motion Projector For Cub Scouts

Scouts push fundraiser to acquire a sound motion picture projector. Rotary Club contributes 5500, with about 2400 more needed before ordering. Cub Scouts fundraised via Rotary Carnival tickets. remaining funds to cover several hundred free films for scouts. Picnic And Rally At Nada Sunday June 27

An all day picnic and political rally is planned at Nada on Sunday June 27. A noon barbecue lunch will be served followed by supper at six. Frank Mig and his band perform during the day and again for the evening dance. Invitations extend to all and refreshments will be plentiful. Mr and Mrs D S Taylor and Stephene arrive in Ker West and plan some fishing while in Southern Florida.

Catholics To Hold Barbecue Sunday June 13

The Catholic parish of S. L. Kucherkw farm four miles south of Eagle Lake plans a barbecue picnic on Sunday June 13 starting at 12 30 p m with entertainment in the afternoon. Rev A W Didner pastor of Eagle Lake church is general chairman aided by a committee handling meat food concessions drinks tickets and publicity. All parish members assist and no advance ticket sales are listed. proceeds fund the pew church under construction by RH Reese.

Garden Club Ends Year With Lawn Party June 4th

Twenty four members of the Eagle Lake Garden Club and one guest, Mrs G C Duncan, gathered on the lawn of Mr and Mrs I V Duncan near Matthews for a party last Friday afternoon. The event closed a busy year with Mrs J G Jenkins presiding over her last meeting. Mrs C E Everitt Sr will be president for 1945-49 starting next September and will be assisted by the officers: Mrs I V Duncan first vice president, Mrs Kistin Smith second vice president, Mrs W G Darby secretary, Mrs B M M Smith treasurer, and Mrs G T E Souke reporter. Mrs T Matthews chairs the Year Book committee and Mr Justin Smith chairs the membership committee.

Eagle Lake Brenham Game to Be Heard on KWHI Sunday

The Eagle Lake Aces travel to Brenham to face the Brenham team at 3:30 Sunday afternoon in the South Central Texas League second half. KWHI radio in Brenham will broadcast the game. The Giddings Red Socks beat the Aces 7 to 2 on Sunday with 11 Red Socks hits and four Aces, Walter Mertzen starting, Charlie Duddleston relieving.

Garwood Methodist Bible School Set For June Dates

Garwood Methodist Church will hold a Bible School from June 14 to June 25, with daily sessions from 8:20 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Children and youths aged three and older are invited. Sheriff Harvey Lee Opens County Radio Station in Columbus

About 400 people toured Sheriff Harvey Lee’s new KOM police radio station in Columbus during an open house. Deputy Wheeler and Robert B Franklin assisted as visitors viewed the equipment and learned of two way car to car and jail to HQ communications. The FCC granted permit 14034 B1 P C for KDMT, enabling regional law enforcement to relay news of escapes and incidents quickly to Wharton Richmond and nearby stations.

Glen Sunderman Passes Away Here Wednesday

Glen Sunderman son of Henry WN and Lewisa Syne Sunderman died after a nine five year illness in Eagle Lake. Born October 28 1888 in Colby Kansas he moved to Texas in 1910 and became a leading farmer near Eagle Lake. Survived by widow Esther Ann Thomas and six children Leslie Luana Henry Vera David Jane, plus siblings and grandchildren. New Principal Named For Grammar School

The Consolidated Independent School District of Eagle Lake announces Miss Win Lee Barnett as principal of the elementary school and eighth grade teacher. Barnett, previously principal at Markham Elementary, replaces Mrs. George Cason who left last session. Several resignations occur in the lower grades while the high school adds vocational agriculture taught by L. J. Rosprim from Fans. Barnett plans to base in Lissie with her family as she builds a new college, and several faculty members attend summer classes at the University of Houston.

Baptists To End Vacation Bible School Tonight

American Legion Social Meeting Planned for Tuesday

The W. Cherry M. Perry Post 108 of the American Legion will hold a social meeting at the Legion Hall at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday June 15. Plans for July 3 carnival will be discussed and committees named. Pool operation matters will be addressed and all members urged to attend. Refreshments of hot dogs and cold drinks will be served.

Rodgers Re Appointed City Business Manager

City Council met at City Hall with Mayor Emanuel Roos presiding. After routine business the council discussed separating school tax collections from city duties, but no action followed. Applications for the vacant Night City Marshal post were not acted on after a death on duty. E H Rodgers Sr was re appointed for two years from June 1 1948 amid split votes. Campbell and Estinbaum favored a different approach. Water well operation was debated before adjournment.

Judge and Mrs. Jos V Pinka Return to Austin Ill

Judge Jos V Pinka and his wife arrived in Austin after a long stay in Germany where Judge Frnka sat at a war times tribunal. Both were reported ill in an Austin hospital this week. Friends hope for quick recovery as they plan to go to Columbus to meet their kin and friends soon.

Legion Carnival 1949 Ford Car July 3 Planned To Shows Radical Aid

The American Legion posts plan a city park Carnival on Saturday, July 3, to raise funds for finishing the swimming pool and park beautification. A meeting on June 15 will map the carnival program with drinks, hamburgers, hot dogs, and concessions. The 1949 Ford will be displayed June 18 and 25 at Universal Motor Co. and features major styling, economy, safety upgrades, and new engineering details.

Softball Season To Continue As Summer Activity

The league plans continued play with games on Tuesdays and Thursdays through August 1. On Thursday June 3 Abbie and Elmer beat Carroll Construction 10 to 9 in a nine inning miscounted game due to ineligible players. The Leftovers defeated Jones Motor girls 22 to 11, while Abbie and Elmer previously beat Lissie Dryers 8 to 6 on June Ath, Willie Brune’s first season appearance for Lissie was wild.
