Decoration Day Services in Rock Island Attendances

The Rock Island Decoration Day observance on Sunday May 3 drew former residents from Texas towns and out of state. A noon luncheon was not served and memorial rites occurred at Myrtle Cemetery at 2 30 pm with songs and a prayer by Rev D Rhea Allison.

W L Pendergraft and his wife will relocate in June to Austin where he will run the Capital Hotel owned with his brother T F Pendergraft. The former Colorado County Citizen publisher also resigned as Columbus Chamber of Commerce president and leaves with best wishes for success.

Garwood High School Holds 1947 48 Graduation

The Garwood High School held commencement exercises in the school auditorium Friday evening. Diplomas were awarded to Anthony Kallina and 14 other graduates. Valedictorian Anthony Kallina and salutatorian Billie Hope Fraka led the class. Rep. C. S. McLellan gave the address. Miss Merle Carey led the processional and recessional. Two graduates called into service during high school received diplomas. Class honor rolls were listed for each grade from Junior to First Grade.

Judge Frika Returns From Duty In Germany

Judge Joseph V Frika and Mrs Frika sailed May 1 from Bremerhaven Germany and are due in New York City Monday They plan to reach Austin about June 15 Frika a former Colorado county representative and former assistant attorney general served in Munich Germany under the American military government for two years.

Eagle Lake and its trade territory are invited to join Yoakum Tom Tom Parade on Saturday June 12 at 5 30 p m. Prizes will be split between visiting and Yoakum entries. Vacation Bible School Enrolls 83 Pupils Here

The Daily Vacationable School coeing held at the First Baptist Church has enrolled 83 pupils with an average daily attendance around 70. Boys make bird houses while girls craft clay and leather items. community children are invited to attend next week. A program and displays will be held next Friday night.

Crowds Enjoy the American Legion Pool and Park Progress

Large crowds use the American Legion Swimming Pool daily from afternoon to night under lifeguards. The pool hosts about fifty in morning swim classes and will be drained next Monday for repairs. New diving boards are on order and three board types will be installed. Contractor R H Rees will begin bathhouse work seeded on the foundation already laid. A pool committee meeting is set for Tuesday at 7 30 PM at the Hesaligh Office. Donations are welcomed to help landscape the park and keep swim prices low.

Eighth Grade Trip Returns After Three-Day Louisiana Visit

Eagle Lake School eighth graders led by George Cason and staff completed a three day trip to Baton Rouge and New Orleans. They toured the state capitol French Quarter St Louis Cathedral Cabildo Old French Market Sugar Bowl Tulane University and Lake Pontchartrain before returning home via New Iberia. A family relic noted a great great uncle of E F B Munford died in the Civil War during the New Orleans visit.
