Untold thousands of dollars in damage reported across Mary Bratins south area as a violent hailstorm struck cotton, rice and corn fields. Weather observers note widespread destruction with reports of ruined yields and farm losses lingering into the next day.
A church fellowship supper Wednesday night honors the Rev and Mrs. Tervié Goodenough as the new pastor of the church. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share and meet the pastor and his wife. Postmaster W. E. McRee is reported ill and confined to Laughl ire Hospital this week.
Dr Patrik Bmnanuel crusade scholar from India will speak at Garwood Methodist Church Monday night at a covered dish fellowship supper. He recently graduated from a Methodist high school and came to the United States in August 1954.

Rachel Anne Terrell, daughter of Mr and Mrs Terrell, will be a summer employee at the Headlight office. A recent high school graduate she edited the Eaglelet during senior year and plans to pursue education at Wharton County Junior College. Her byline appears on ten assignments this week showcasing drive and efficiency.
Mrs Ed M Fraka a long time Garwood resident died Friday at El Campo. Funeral services held Monday morning at St Mans Catholic Church Nada with Rev Father Valenta officiating. Interment at St Marys with Prients of this aces. Surviving are husband Wilfrid, a son Edwin, four granddaughters, three ale mary Frances Buxkamper and Wilfrid Finka Jr. also two sisters and two brothers.
Church children attend Vacation Bible School sessions at Evangelical United Brethren Lisie church with about 116 youngsters ages 4 to 17 enrolled. Programs include Bible study, handicraft, character building, and missionary study with a closing picnic and commencement program. Other churches host Bible schools with varied start dates, open house, and daily sessions through mid June.
In Eagle Lake new residential and commercial construction nears completion. Wareheast Construction advances at D. R. Wintermann plant addition. Pexas Concrete Silo Company builds six storage bins. Panners Equipment moves near the post office. A modern metal and stone building rises on West Main. Telephone company workers install new cable from West Main to Rosenberg. New homes arise in the presidential district including J Davidson on Cemetery Street and residences for Donna Wood and False Terrell. Mrs Bertha Smith of Lissie East Bernard retires after thirty eight years as a Southern Pacific agent serving the East Bernard area. She plans to reside in Lissie and temporary relief agents take over at the East Bernard railroad station. Also notes a visit from relatives arriving from Maracaibo Venezuela for two months.
Eagle Lake city council discussed budget hearings and road rights of way. Board of Equalization to meet next week with three local members named Darby Estlinbaum and Wirse. Bank directors announced Saturday banking hours from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon and Friday hours 2:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Representatives of the nation's rice farmers and rice millers met in Houston with Department of Agriculture officials to coordinate the Plentiful Feeds campaign. The period September 2 to October 9 was set for peal promotion, with the rice industry pledging key support for fall advertising and merchandising.
Preliminary figures from the Tax Assessor Henry Hajovaley show about a 500000 rise in all property valuations, pushing Colorado County's total tax roll past 44 million for the first time this year. Rendered and unrendered rolls total about 26109870. last year’s total was 45595573 with about 100000 in derricks. A Board of Equalization hearing is set for June 16 to set royalties and oil valuations, with royalty owners notified to attend at the courthouse in Columbus. County officials reviewed in county property values with 4 increases and 4 decreases noted. further small adjustments expected from new structures and businesses.
Ground breaking ceremonies for the new First Baptist Church building will be held Sunday afternoon at the site staged by Rev Joe Townsend. The event at Prairie Street and Lake Avenue marks the start of construction with architect OM Butfiision of Houston and contractor Oh Van JG Tave of Haredip. Work to begin immediately and all invited to attend.
