Santa Fe President Sees Railroads Bright in 1948
Fred G Gurley, president of Santa Fe Railway, says railroads face a bright outlook as civilian demand normalizes postwar. He notes improved labor, equipment, and shipping flow returning with demobilization, and highlights continued US rail capacity to meet travel and freight needs. He cites wheat harvests, weather as variable, and ongoing programs to boost car and equipment supply. He also mentions farmers' acreage trends and the broader economic role of the railroad industry.
