During FFA Week FFA members will display metal work, highlighting skills and project craftsmanship. The event underlines student achievement and ties to agricultural education traditions.
The Texas Exes association of Colorado County holds its annual Independence Day meeting at Marvin's in Sagle Lake. A speaker from the University of Tennessee will deliver the keynote address during the program scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Garwood FFA will stage its annual band show on March 5 and an allied sale on March 6 in downtown Garwood. Lions Club funds will supply prize money and attendance for FFA members. 20 calves and 15 swine will be judged and sold, with an auction preceding the judging by announced judges. A large Eagle Lake band show is set for March 10 at Eagle Lake High School with multiple bands and the Moon Dusters Orchestra, benefiting school music programs. Tickets are 50 cents. under six admitted free. Proceeds finance band facilities and equipment upgrades.
Three youths around ten years old were arrested after leading police to Rock Island where they admitted stealing a Fender instrument and other items. The incident involved farm equipment and baited gear, with officers tracing the theft to the trio who confessed to the crime.
Miss Martha Pidgeon secretary at Pagle Lake Chamber of Commerce appeals to members to submit THA dues. Nonmembers and absentees will be noted. membership cards issued after remittance. Individual dues amount to 3.23, and names will be added to the Chamber’s standings.
The Berean Class of Colly Memorial Methodist Church will stage a ham supper at the Eagle Lake Community Center on March 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Members begin selling tickets this weekend. Admission is 1.25 dollars for adults and 75 cents for children under six.

The filing deadline was midnight March 5 with candidates submitting loyalty affidavits and official affidavits to be placed on the ballot. Councilman Tate and Seaholm noted non or undecided intentions for re election while Wiese postponed comment.
The Eagle Lake Quarterjack Club reminds members and events participants of the March 1 deadline to buy all sports banquet tickets at 5.00 each. Honor seniors from Eagle Lake High School and hear Coach Johnnie Frankie speak. Election of officers and a dance by Jodie Bresen’s Orchestra follow at 7 PM in the elementary auditorium.
First National Bank of Tagle Lake will close all day Wednesday March due to Texas Independence Day observance. President EL Lenser announces the closure in local notice.
District Court in Columbus entered guilty pleas in three cases and dismissed twenty others. Two defendants received two year suspended sentences, while a third was penalized. Several cases date to the 1920s and 1930s. warrants and grand jury actions affected dispositions. Florida?
G M Cason, prominent rancher, won grand champion honors at the Gulf Coast Hereford sale in Columbus with entry G M Mixer purchased by Jick Draper for 650. The reserve champion came from Charles Mace of Bellville. Doug Thompson of Bellville owned the champion female sold to HB Pyle for 700. Fifty-one bulls sold for 17760. top pens fetched 1170 and 814 for the best pen of tires wellars gold.
A cold spell eased Saturday after extreme low readings, with temperatures dipping across the region. Forecasters warn of another blustery front to arrive late Thursday, raising expectations of renewed severe cold warnings and wind chills.

Temes Cranek remains seriously injured with head injuries and a fractured hip while Remant Labay, son of Mr and Mrs Louis Labay of Nada, suffered a broken limb and other injuries. Both are recovering and veterans of the Korean War.
