Garwood under coach Reed clinched the county title with a 38-33 final over Weimar after beating Shelmar in Gaywood Saturday night. Foer Bler and Laborica led Garwood with 11 points, Bunn scored 6 for Weimar, and opening wins included Garwood over Columbus 63-8 and Eagle Lake over Columbus 12-20. Garwood advances to the district tournament at Yoakum on February 18-19.

T. P. Haley was called to George from last weekend by the illness of his son Tom Haley who attends Southwestern University. Tom suffered a serious root infection and was taken to Bay Ridge to Dr. John H. Foster in Houston. A pus pocket behind the palate was opened and drained. he remains feverish but is responding to treatment and expected to recover.

Dogs Attack Eleven Year Old Boy Near Townley Shops
Weyman Thomas an 11 year old African American boy was attacked by a bulldog followed by four to five other dogs near the Townley Magazine Shops. Reverend Johnnie Jones used a stick to drive the animals away and the boy received deep bite wounds and facial lacerations before being taken to Dr J F Laughlin for treatment.

Elm Grove Couple's Daughter Dies After Illness
Vonnie Brown, daughter of Thos White and wife, longtime Elm Grove residents, died Thursday after an 18 month illness. She lived with her parents. Funeral services were held Friday with burial at Matthews.

She lived with her son since 1937 and had been bedbound since December 8. She married George P Harry February 10 1876 in Brevham Texas and is survived by two sons eight grandchildren a brother and two half brothers. Funeral at Lakeside Cemetery Engle Lake Wednesday conducted by Rev A P Foerster and Rev H C Travis with family in attendance.
