The Hesvadim Orchestra of Ro senberg will furnish music for an old time dance at Austin Hall in Eagle Lake on Saturday night February 16. The orchestra is good and if the weather is favorable, good attendance is expected. Admission price will be five cents. tax is closed. Ladies will be permitted.
Report from Austin shows a deadly highway crash near Engle Lake highway at 3 pm Sunday claimed the lives of Mr and Mrs. Eagle Lake, with Mrs. Smith hospitalized after severe head and facial injuries. The Grand Jury of Colorado county Texas adjourned after returning fifteen true bills from the February term. They report two misdemeanors and thirteen felonies, inspected the jail and county police, and found the courts in fair condition. The engagement of Miss Clara J. Armstrong of 141 Essex Avenue Chicago to Mrs Dee O Coe is announced. The bride to be is a former Eagle Lake girl, niece of local residents and formerly attended local schools.
Directors of the Colorado Inter scholastic League held an executive meeting with County Superintendent J. H. Wool in Columbus. The program includes spelling, volley ball, memory tests, arithmetic, picture memory, playground ball, and track events. Schools are invited to join by writing the director, without paying the fee to participate in county events.
Readers are urged to start the new serial story "After Worlds Collide" in today's paper. The tale, a sequel to last week's completion, begins with opening chapters and is praised as one of the best serials ever printed. It will interest readers whether they followed the prior issue or not.
Olver Williams, a Black man and son of Mason Williams, died Tuesday morning in Galveston after being wounded with an ice pick by a Black woman. Williams and two others, previously jailed in Colorasia County on burglary charges, were caught trying to sell cotton seed in Garwood. Williams had escaped custody for two months prior.
Rehearsals underway nightly for a comedy to be staged by the Little Theatre in early March. The production features Mrs Prazer with James Fraser in a bachelor plot, and a cast including Elsie Fraser Kathryn McReeher Phill Logan Noel Perkerysher Ninian Murdo Fraser Chester Gawfield and Tommie Givers. Old Fiddlers will contest in March at Garwood School in Purphorholla Wyoming. The event will be held in the pechoot building at Garwood. This year features more skilled contestants and residence rules. Each contestant may enter from any parish and be accompanied by one or more persons on other instruments.
A large sale of rice totaling fifty carloads was conducted at Garwood Saturday by C. R. Schiuring, local manager for the American Face Gowers' Co operative association. The Blue Rose sale to J. J. Whatley at Galveston netted $3.00 per barrel with $3.45 top. 8000 sacks were sold for L. D Roberts for the Standard Nice Milling Co. at Houston, top profit $2.92. Only about 2000 sacks remained unsold in Garwood territory. Schiuring noted office sales prior to this sale totaled 41467 barrels delivering $125,787.11, averaging $3.09 per 1142-pound barrel. The Garwood sale and an Eagle Lake sale two days earlier were expected to boost local cash flow.
The Avalon Theatre announces a bank night offer for next Tuesday with a prize pot around ten dollars after a $9,000 amount was noted last Tuesday. R Bingley was called but did not appear. an additional ten dollars will be added next Tuesday to the pot.
