Farmers across Colorado counties are reminded to vote on Saturday December 1 for the ACA election to choose community committees and delegates. Polls open at City Hall in Gerwoné and at the school. ballots may be mailed or returned at the Columbus AAA office or at local polling sites.
Mrs Thomas will present her pupils in a dancing recital at Cole's Theatre on December 21. The program will include a complete list of numbers and participating pupils with gender noted. attendees should be at Cole's Theatre for the event.
The Marine Corps Recruiting Office in Columbus announces the enlistment of two local youths. Charles Louis Sands Jr. and William Alsnonse Zalesak, ages 21 and 17, are encouraged to volunteer now for Army forces benefits including education, trades, and travel. Marine Sergeant urges prompt action and directs inquiries to the Marine Sergeant on the third floor of the Court House in Columbus.
Mr Anderson, president of the Colorado County Farm Bureau, informs Blue Cross policy holders and aspiring holders that applications and checks must be in by December 15th. He urges you to mail them promptly to ensure they are postmarked by December 15th to become effective January 1st.
Emmanuel Braden leads a list of 25 Rice Owls lettermen for the 1948 season. Braden, former Maple Lake student and son of Mr. and Mrs. Ent Brasten, is a Rice Institute tutor. A banquet honored the lettermen, with TA Tinsley and station guests noted.

Harry Lobpeles organized a chicken barbecue honoring Garwood Gars and their coach Benford Gardner after the 1948 football season. Attendees included Date Hunt Lester Snow Kenseth Brune 7D Kallina Bill Huvar Norbert Favin and Buddy Ray Trammer who thanked Mr Lobpries for the enjoyable event.
Judge Johan Hangher announces Wharton Road farm-to-market corridor right of way is nearly finished. Only two or three deeds along the route to the Wharton County line remain to be secured by the State Highway Department before construction can start.
The Headlight staff plans Christmas and New Year editions to showcase local business greetings and holiday notices. Mrs Tiargrove Smith assists in advertising to invite all merchants and neighboring communities to submit copy early in the next two weeks. Churches clubs and individuals are urged to send news items and programs for publication.
Colorado County farmers will see acreage allotments and marketing quotas for the 1949 peanut crop. The marketing penalty for excess acreage is 50 percent of the basic rate, about five cents per pound, based on 1948 price support. Notices of 1949 allotments will be mailed soon after January, with new farms notified around March 1, 1949.
Rev and Mrs Floyd LaMuyon of Baxter Springs Kansas will conduct a special church service Monday evening at Eagle Lake Mission. LaMuyon, dean of the Bible School, visits in the interest of the schools program with Mrs Latraven as voice instructor.
John Walker of Eagle Lake is among 44 members of Texas A M 1948 freshman football team selected for letter awards. He will join the varsity for spring workouts in February, following a strong freshman season that saw 140 candidates and a 4 1 record including a 14 to 0 win over the University of Texas.
City churches schedule a week of Christmas activities with cantatas, Christmas tree events, and pageants. The First Baptist and Presbyterian churches host programs December 22, with Santa visits and gifts. Bethlehem rites planned by Christ Episcopal, and Midnight Mass across Catholic parishes. Other locales include Eagle Lake Mission, American Lutheran, and Memorial Methodist church plans with child programs and Christmas service.
Sympathy is extended to County Tax Assessor-Collector Eynil Rabel and family on the death of his brother Joe Rabel of Weimar who passed away November 27th and was buried on November 80th. He was survived by his wife three daughters five brothers and three sisters.

The American Legion Post 05 in Eagle Lake completes plans for a city park gala Christmas celebration on December 2 with about 74 local Girl Scouts caroling before Santa Claus, who arrives with Eagle Lake volunteers. Legionnaires will distribute bags of nuts and candy to children. seniors and families are urged to attend.
The Cole Theatre offers a varied week of color, fun and drama with a Christmas Day program announced too late for the printed issue. Dorothy Lamour George Montgomery and Charles Laughton star in The Girl From Manhattan. Show begins 2 15 pm instead of 1 30 pm to accommodate theater staff and patrons.
Hunters must wrap up by sunset on December 16 as duck season closes. Quail and squirrel hunts continue with limits of 36 to 42 per week for quail and up to ten quail in possession, plus two bucks in season.
Hallettsville Brahmas face Granger Lions in a key Friday night showdown at Hallettsville Municipal Stadium 3 pm December 10. Both teams sit 10 1 1 for the season with Granger riding a 25 game undefeated streak. winner eyes Region 9 crown and a shot at the state.
Joe Fightmaster, son of Bert Larmer of Eagle Lake, drove a Greyhound from Raton New Mexico with JS passengers when a westward blizzard halted the trip at Lakin. A storm victim joined the ride and later at Garden City was revealed to be a wealthy local entertaining the driver and assistant during the ordeal.
East Bernard welcomes Rosenberg for a preseason basketball game set in the East Bernard gym tonight. Hinton Jr. leads the East Bernard squad as they invite the community to attend this local matchup. Miss Eyes Jane Merborth of Kingsbury spent the weekend.
