Thanksgiving Day hunting tragedy shocks Columbus community
Frank Dungen of Houston died after a hunting accident on the Cullen ranch near Columbus on Thanksgiving Day. State Game Warden T T Waddell of Eagle Lake discharged a pistol at the ground during a sudden encounter, accidentally hitting Dungen who had stepped from dense woods. Waddell reported the incident to authorities and remained at the scene while Columbus officers investigated. Dungen, 45, longtime Shell Oil radiology worker, leaves a large family including a wife four brothers and eight sisters across Texas and California.

The Texas Farm Bureau State Convention urged Texas Agricultural Experimentation to develop cotton and other crops suited to regional conditions. It called for decentralizing the Smith-Derey law, creating a Pink Bollworm Commission, and funding water and pest control measures. A county noxious weed and weed control law, and noxious weed enforcement across roads and farms, were recommended, with state funding for pest control and continued animal and pest regulations.

Death of Fred L. Hunt in Garwood and El Campo
Fred L. Hunt of Garwood died November 26 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Oscar Smith in El Campo. He lived with his son Raymond Hunt in Garwood and earlier near the Feb community before moving to Garwood. The funeral was at the Wheeler funeral home in El Campo and burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery at El Campo. He is survived by sons Everett and Raymond, daughters Zelpha Smith and Alice Hunt, 13 grandchildren, two sisters and two brothers.

McDonald, 85, broke her hip in a fall about three weeks ago.
