Fire Devastates Creedmoor Store and Dispensary

Early today a major fire at Creedmoor Granville County consumed the Surl Perry company stock and a store owned by S C Lyon. Losses are estimated around 3900 for stock and 2000 for the dispensary building, both insured. The blaze also damaged nearby property and raises questions about election-season tensions in Durham.

Deaths in Durham Area Mrs Lassiter Vickers

Obituaries report the death of Mrs Quinnettie Lassiter at 74 after long illness with five children surviving J S Lassiter J P Lawrence Lenora Lassiter H C Howell of Norfolk and W Scott of Wake County. Funeral held 3 pm from her home with Rev W C Barrett. Also noted is the Jenkins family tragedy of Mrs Lester burned to death at 81 near Chatham caused by fall in fire. Ophelia Vickers dies at 62 two miles south of Durham leaving fourteen children fifty two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral at her old home place with family burial.

Major Hamilton Dies. Orange County Clerk Passes

Major D. H. Hamilton longtime Orange County court clerk died after paralysis struck him two weeks ago. An aged veteran about 70 to 75 years old he left two sons and one daughter. Funeral and burial are scheduled for tomorrow.
