Two Durham Women Die Sudden in Late Weekends

Mrs. Mary Lea Rigsbee, 54, wife of ex Sheriff John V. Rigsbee, dies after weeks of illness. Miss Malissa Hopkins, 52, boardinghouse proprietor known statewide, dies of heart trouble. Both deaths shock Durham. funerals held Sunday with services at Second Baptist and Trinity Methodist churches.

Rountree Held Without Bail After Stabbing Incident

In New Town on Saturday Fred Rountree fought with Ernest Tilley leaving serious wounds. Tilley improved after medical care at his mother's home while Rountree was jailed Sunday. Mayor Graham postponed trial pending injury results. Rountree remains in custody.

Runaway Court House Marriage Seals Union

In the Register of Deeds office Justice R A Harris joined 34 year old W Solomon Watson of Duplin and 23 year old Nannie Williford of Granville as husband and wife. They secured a license with ages stated, his being son of W S Watson and her daughter of Md Williford, and the ceremony proceeded without legal objections.

Orange County superior court holds session with 18 trials this week. Special case State v John F Collins for the murder of Monroe Walker will be tried, with the affair described as cold blooded by officials.

Bryant Addresses East Durham Crowd in 1896 Grown Voter Turnout

Victor S. Bryant, a Durham lawyer, spoke to a large East Durham audience last Friday night. Bud Smith introduced him, praising the turnout as the best seen since the campaign began. Bryant contrasted Democratic labor friendliness with Republican stringency and condemned the Taft and Bryan stances while defending local roads and liquor policy. The speech touched on immigration, party records since 1896, and local politics, with a lead into continuation on the fourth page.
