The Democratic candidate for attorney general, Hon. W. Bickett, spoke to a large crowd at the courthouse last night. He was introduced by Lovis Fuller and urged voters to back his bid, arguing the importance of the office and the need for party unity.
W. R. Kuker a former Durham Iron Works president now living in South Carolina is jailed on fraud charges. He must appear October 19 before Justice J. E. Owens. He faces claims he sold 91 shares for 3500 cash plus 60 shares of stock. defense calls it persecution.
The Mt Zion Baptist Association representing 43 churches in Durham Orange Alamance and Chatham counties met in Burlington this week for a business session. About 7000 members attended as state home and foreign fields were discussed and pledges taken. Rev J M Arnette preached the annual sermon and Rev W C Barrett was elected moderator with officers remaining the same. Next meeting at Mars Hill Baptist church after the first Sunday in October 1909.
Mrs M A Booth died Wednesday at 2 10 pm after a period of serious illness. Born in Oxford and formerly of James City Virginia she was 65 and widow of R W Booth brother of Dr Sam Booth. Survived by two sisters Mrs Pettett and Mrs Smith and four children. Funeral from Watts street home. body shipped to Oxford to rest beside her husband.
Mrs. Nancy Lloyd widow of W H Lloyd died at her Orange County home aged seventy. She leaves eight children including Mrs. C S Sugg and Mrs. S W Bynum and three brothers. Funeral from Orange Grove Baptist Church today at 1 p m conducted by Rev Hacket. A community figure, she was well regarded. Hon Walter Murphy to speak for the Democratic cause in Durham next week, engaging Col Walter R Henry in a joint debate attracting a large crowd.
The L. and M. Paint claims to fix defects in earlier paintings and offers a linseed oil binder with zinc white lead. It promotes a pure linseed oil base and oxide white pigment, priced about $1.20 per gallon as a do it yourself mix in salons through its agents.

The Lincoln Hospital board plans ten new rooms to expand the main building with eight private rooms and two general wards. A heating plant is needed but the project costs 32,000 dollars leaving little for other improvements. Tobacco farmers report good prices for their crop.
