Flag Raising At Tilley School In Mangum Township
Tar Heel Council No.2 Jr. U A M presented a Bible and Flag to Tilley school in Mangum township. About 40 to 80 Juniors and citizens traveled from Durham by private conveyance for the day’s event. Rev. A P Barbee presented the Bible, accepted by J W Umstead. J Martin Umstead presented the flag, accepted by Professor Tilley. Arley M Moore spoke on the order, followed by Prof. J Allen Holt of Oak Ridge. Afterward dinner was served and the Durham group returned home.

Rock Thrown at Passenger Train Near Union Station
A rock was hurled at a Southern railroad passenger train near Union Station Tuesday morning. An eyewitness described a negro man emerging from behind a sign and throwing a large rock through a rear window, causing several passengers to have narrow escapes. No one was injured, and officials from the railroad and local authorities are seeking the assailant. J A Woodall, ex-chief of poles for Durham, promoted the case.

Burroughs Dead In Durham After Indigestion
W H Burroughs longtime Durham settler died between 3 and 4 pm while working on his plantation. Death likely from acute indigestion or heart trouble. He leaves a large family of ten living children and a widow, plus two daughters. The family resided at the home with several relatives named. Services were held at a Baptist church.
