Moses P. Cole of Durham died Wednesday at 8 15 in his home 420 Spring street after a lingering illness. He was 54 and survived by a widow two children two brothers S J Cole J Ed Cole and five sisters. Funeral was held Thursday at 2 pm from his home and burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery with Rev T A Smoot of Main Street Methodist church officiating.

Four Stills Destroyed in County Raid
Revenue officers conducted a raid in the northwest part of the county early this week destroying four stills averaging over one hundred gallons each. Fermenters were cut down and other property damaged. Three owners were at home, one found in the bushes. No arrests were made.

City aldermen concluded a long session naming officers for a two year term. G. C. White remains city engineer at 1500 dollars per year for half time. J. W. All other salaries stay unchanged.

Died Tuesday Morning in West Durham
Mrs. Sarah Gulley died Tuesday morning at age 69 in West Durham at her daughter Mrs. Ben Perry's home. Funeral was held Wednesday and burial at Markham burying ground. Louis Thomason, son of E. Thomason, died of pneumonia on Duke Street. Funeral and interment at Maplewood cemetery. Durham Merchants Association elected officers: J. H. Sneed president, T. M. Gorman vice president, A. J. Pollard secretary, R. C. Everett attorney, others directors. Also notice of new serial starting next issue.
