City Election Call Issued for May Seventh 1907
At an adjourned meeting of the city aldermen the call for the regular election was issued. The election will be held May 7 1907. Registrars and judges were named. Bond questions were discussed with a plan to seek only 150000 dollars at this time for street improvements.
Marriages Wednesday in Northern County Couple Weds
Two marriages occurred Wednesday as the register of deeds issued licenses for others. Miss Elsie Ross wed Thomas Cates in the afternoon, both residents of the northern county, who returned home after the ceremony. Miss Mattie Broadwell married J E Abernethy Wednesday night. Licenses were issued to Thomas Carter and Lillie Gray Bun Howard and Della Hinson Argo Red Salmon appears in a stray ad variant not tied to the weddings.

City leaders plan bond issue organizing meeting
A county bond issue of 300000 is to be organized next week. At last Thursday’s session in the courthouse, A D Markham Jones Fuller and J W Rigsbee joined several citizens to push the plan. An April 6 meeting at 11 o'clock will form a definite committee to carry the drive, following speeches by J S Manning and Victor S Bryant on the vote and benefits of better roads.

Photographs of Snakes at Sparks Show
Last Monday two or more large snakes were exhibited in the side show at the Sparks. The show man asked Miss Katie Johnson to make negatives in the photographic studio. A strong string was used to tie a tow sack containing the snakes, which were photographed with the handler. The women later touched the snakes without fear after the sack was placed inside.

Mrs Catherine Council Dies after Short Illness at 67
Mrs Catherine Council aged 67 died last Sunday at her daughter Mrs L F Williams home 13 Ramseur street after a brief illness from pneumonia. The remains were taken to the old home in Chatham county for interment at Ebenezer church.

A quiet marriage occurred last Monday in Durham between Miss Mamie Howerton formerly of Roanoke Virginia and Mr Frank Bennett of New York. The ceremony was by Rev E M Hoyle at Mangum Street Methodist Church. The bride, a former stenographer for General J S Carr, had known the groom for a week. They traveled to Greensboro for a few days then returned to Durham and plan to move to the North after a two week stay.
