Death of Mr Horton in Chat ham County
Thomas B Horton of Chat ham county died at his home Saturday morning at 6 oclock. He was brother of Mrs R J Hooper and Mrs P F Carter of this city. Carrie Sand and Miss Fannie Hooper travel home for his funeral Sunday at 3 pm. Horton leaves two sisters in Virginia and a brother in Colorado. Many friends in Durham mourn his loss.

Mrs Brown Dies. funeral in Durham at Watts burying ground
Mrs. Narcissus Brown, 72, died Monday morning at her East Durham home. She will be buried at Watts burying ground, four miles from Durham, at three this afternoon with Rev. J. W. Downey of the Baptist church officiating. She leaves three sons W R, C F and H Brown after a long illness.

Slander case ends in compromise in Durham
In a Durham slander suit against Thomas M. Thomason by Mrs. William R. Garner, a jury verdict of guilty led to a court compromise. Thomason paid 500 dollars into criminal court plus 200 dollars to witness Mrs. Garner, and 50 dollars for costs in two civil actions of 5000 dollars each brought by Garner. The actions were dismissed under the settlement.

Settlements in Durham Damage Suit and Oil Case
A damage suit in Durham Superior Court was settled Monday in Mrs. J. W. Allen versus Durham Traction for about 2,500 to 5,000 dollars over injuries when alighting a car near Five Points. Another suit against Standard Oil by Robert Perry for Tom Lunsford’s death in a gas explosion may amount to 5,000, while a separate Holoway suit against Standard Oil seeks 60,000. The city schools observed Lees birthday with speeches by Dr. Mims and pastors at several schools.
